Cheers for the info Steve. We will have a proper look at what we need to do to the car once we decide what to do after this season.

Can't you massively under map it George? That way you will have bags of cooling and loads of reliability? Also... Adding weight to the front of a vx is maybe a good thing anyway (distribution wise)

Wouldn't cost much to make the car standard again.

Were not sure were defo doing anything yet it would be expensive and i still want to keep and track my own car next year. Just looking at options and we still have two TA rounds left yet.

weight includes the driver

Didn't realise that. With Darrons gut we could make the 175bhp per tonne then

Detune to stage 2. Forget about it breaking. Start enjoying your trackdays again. The end. :P

Why is it unreliable at stage 4?

Stage 4 consumption of turbos seem quite high in particular

Its not.

We've had some bad luck this year but its all pretty much because of that miss fire we started the year with. Were still not sure what that was down to as everything got changed at least once. It still got tracked hard with no sympathy despite it banging and stuttering and eventually something internal in the engine let go (engine still hasn't been stripped to find the cause). Apart from that we've had a split CV boot and a wiring loom chafed by the tyre because of no arch liners.

Detuning it would only be an option to meet regs of a race series. Well that and the fact that if you want to race for an hour then everything is going to get hot in any car so something of a more standard spec will always stand a better chance of finishing. You only have to look at most of the TA cars, they couldn't last 10 laps in a row of pushing hard and the donkey definitely could.

Darrons car had a second hand turbo on it when he had the power increase 2 or 3 years ago because he's a tight arse and the turbo was only changed for the first time before Oulton. The only reason the turbo failed was because in the rush to get it ready for Snetterton i didn't fit the coolant pipe correctly  . Ive not had a turbo failure in my car and the only person im aware of that hasn't had much luck with them is DaveE.

A few of us have had cracked turbo manifolds afaik, snoopstah, me, Dave to name but a few. Reality of stage 4 is ur pushing most of the components quite close to their limit... It's not as important in TA like you say but I think running all the uprated components and extra cooling you will have on a stage 4 and running a map capped at lower bhp like John said makes perfect sense in races that last 40 mins plus

I'm afraid I disagree a bit, I don't think most of the components are close to their limit, though some are (side engine mounts for instance). Having stripped down several Z20LET engines (+ancillaries) that have had hard lives it is remarkable how little wear they show. The issue with cracked manifolds is quite likely to be to do with not enough patient warm up time when the cars are started and/or too thin casting of the manifold (which is a manufacturing oversight rather than a stage of tuning issue).

Even on a stage 0 VXT, it is quite possible to make the turbo manifold glow orange BTW.

I have but not sure theres much with you in it Tim. I will go through it after tomorrows shenanigans.

Tomorrows looking foggy in the morning then a dry day :( . Really needed some rain to try and upset Ronnie and Umar as the shortened Donington track is bound to suit there car. Hope the donkey behaves and so does Neils so we can do battle.

Good day but feel shattered now. Car ran well and Darron pushed hard, did a 1min 20second lap in qually which we were very happy with. We wanted to dip into the 1:19's but couldn't find space in the final to put a lap together after the red flag for the scooby on its side in the gravel  :o . Ended up with a poor result which is disappointing and i cant believe how i can go from being buzzing one min to being so deflated the next. We've had a good day though and the car is all good for Brands. We've done our best and should be very happy . . . just doesn't feel that way at the moment.

Time for a beer!

bit annoyed with myself,we should have had a podium.given the way the final went,i am surprised we did a 121

i suppose thats just the way it goes!

if i hadnt managed to drive out of the gravel it would have been a lot worse,we went hoping for third so fourth in class isnt too bad
