Hi, Cliffe used to do these but he does not sell them anymore. Would anyone be kind enough to let me know where I might be able to get an alternative quick shift from? Kind regards, Paul

You will also save a lot of swearing if you equip yourself with a parallel pin punch before you start. (You'll still be swearing a bit though)

89 Euro's plus shipping from Germany.... Sounding like GBP 100 by the time it gets to my doorstep. Don't suppose anyone knows of one that is closer to the price Cliffe used to sell for? KInd regards, Paul

Do either of these fit out of the box without any issues? I remember Cliffe's rattled around on the selector shaft a little. Also do they go straight on or do the selector cables need adjusting?? Kind regards, Paul

Mine (moto concept) went straight on with no adjustment and didnt rattle, perhaps thats why they're the price they are

Fitting isn't the issue and nothing needs adjusting. No, the fun is in getting the old one off. There's a pin that needs to be driven out - hence having a parallel punch to hand being a good idea. Move the expansion tank out of the way, fit a 1/2" socket on an extension to the end of the punch so you can belt it with a hammer out of the confines of the engine bay. Pre-soaking the pin in the penetrating oil of your choice is also a good idea.

This is the one I have fitted, but I had issues with selecting gears when fitted as it does not fit snug and the rubber sleeve (from the old one) does not fit in. I tried a bit of metal tubing to pack it out, fitted like a glove but still had issues selecting gears so ended op boring the hole out on the selector so the rubber sleeve would fit, all okay!!

They should come with a plastic insert that goes on the shaft so its solid. When i fit lukes it was a bit undersized so i had to sort it but now its a perfect fit, very tight.

I got a Forge Motorsport quick shifter, which fits in the selection mechanism attached to the gearstick, rather than at the gearbox end. I haven't had chance to fit it yet so cannot comment on how well it works. Just another option if you have problems with that pin..

The Rally design one is a little loose which is why I stopped supplying it. All but one I sold worked though but it was the one that didn't that made me stop supplying. If anybody wants an easy solution, you can buy a clamp on gear knob and lob a length off the gear stick, job done.

I have the moto concept one. After reading all the horror stories about the "little bastard pin from hell" I had courtenay fit it when they did the clutch and fly wheel (at no additional cost). Was a bit sticky from 1st to 2nd for the first couple of hundred miles, but now it's sweet as a nut. Great mod, feels like it should have come out of the factory with one fitted.

Hi, after having a few 1st gear related issues on the Hoon... Ive started stripping down my vx.

Im guessing this photo is a fitted short shifter

Posted Image

I was going to remove my old shifter....which is....

Posted Image

Please could someone confirm its just a case of wacking the support pin out then wiggle it off ?

I've been reading some posts about these being the cause of 1st gear select problems... currently this is the main suspect...

Adjusted the cable for 1st/2nd/Rev and its a little better but im still not 100% keen on the feel.

Thanks

Mark

While the short shifter does what it says (reduces shift throw), it does make the shift action a bit stickier, to the point where if I could have be a*sed, I would have removed it.

For fitting, the second major PITA is removing the small circlip on the underside of the mechanism, which obviously you can't see, and will probably loose when it flys off in some direction.

Have fun.
