@Paul: where did you get your extended gear lever from? I know, i have found something like this, but i couldnt find it anymore...

Sorry for the late reply. To extend the lever I just:

Bought some steel tube that was suitable for (internal) tapping the same size thread as the gearknob. I cut a section off the tube about 100 mm long and internally threaded both ends.

Then I cut some studding (threaded rod) to about 100 mm. I slotted the 100 mm of studding into the gearknob.

Then I used the intenally threaded tube to connect between the gearknob and where the gearknob would normally be screwed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Result including use of short shifter:

Less chance of selection 5th when you are trying to select 3rd because the left to right movement is increased due to the lengthened throw.

Similar movement front to back to standard setup due to shortshifter cancelling out effect of long gear lever.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried various combinations of std, longer, much longer, a little longer extensions until I found the desired result. Overall happier now than totally standard

I have also had brass bushes made to replace the nylon insert in both QC and std shifter. This seems to work fine. You would think the nylon bush was there to introduce a little "give" to protect and smooth out the gear change. However I think there is enough give in the rest of the linkages and pivots to allow a smooth change without using a nylon or rubber bush.

Kindly, Paul

Here is the picture. Gear knob now closer to wheel, easy precise shifts. I would say around 70 mm longer
