Have to say the ONLY car I've driven recently that could possibly take my lurve away from the VX is the Evora.... aside from the price tag a Manual Evora N/A makes so much sense and heart.

to be honest, you've asked yourself too many questions already.

VXs are cars bought with the heart not the head.

They are uncomfortable, noisy, delicate, stuplidly expensive to repair. The cabin is a great big compromise, the passenger seat is daft, you can never hear the radio, the heater doesn't work, the boot is tiny, they are impractical to work on. General consumables such as tyres are specific to the vx220, hard to get hold of and are dear as result. they have an undesirable vauxhall badge, they have no dealer interest and the few good specialists are located at the four corners of the country.

I can't think why anyone would 'think' they are a good buy.

Some of us though 'felt' they were though.

I can see the Funny side of that, however I have to disagree slightly

I find my VX perfectly comfortable the seats are perfect for me
My last car was stripped out so to have more then 2 seats I thought the VX was well equipped
By removing the non adjustable lump in the passenger seat it instantly becomes comfortable
Buying a set of £30 speakers fixes being able to hear the radio (but i have mine off most of the time anyway)
the standardised heater is a bit hit and miss but there is now a replacement available
the boot fits a months shopping in for 2, plus the OP said weekend car so dont think thats going to bother him
OK they are a bit of a pain to work on...
General consumables are not that dear and not that expensive when you compare this type of cars performace to others and there parts (porch ect)
I love Vauxhall opel
My local dealer loves it when I turn up as it usually draws a crowd in

IMO they are brilliant buy if you can live with a very few compromises.

And it looks the dogs do-dahs

to the OP yes, there are faster cars then an N/A (your budget) there are more comfortable ones, there are ones with a better noise as standard, however none are a VX!

the only car I could replace the VX with is a Kit car of some type, atom or noble/TVR ect.. as I dont have a garage or the funds to Run any of those then the VX it is

all IMO (and i am a tad playing for team VX)

You seem to have forgotten cylinder heads made of chocolate and ham fisted mechanics, Stuwy.

My original plan was a Westfield and a normal car, I spent about 17k on parts to build a westfield from scratch (with much more to spend) and bought an Astra GSi Mk4. I had always liked what the Elise was but been put off by the engines they used and the slightly "cutesy" styling IMO. After buying the astra I was getting offers for 24 hour test drives and the vx was on the list, so booked it for a friday which got me the car untill monday :D and put 1160 miles on it. That was it, traded the Astra in at huge loss! and got my current VX with only 300 miles on, since sold the Westfield parts off to finance various stuff including trips to the ring etc. as I must admit I did stretch my finances to the limit to have the vx. But I have never regretted it, I love westfields but not enough to give up the vx. Everytime I look at spending £1000's on mods I think, "is there anything out there that makes more sense" the answer is always the same, yes there are other cars but they are either out of reach, not as good as people say or fragile. And even if they are better value for money, to me non will be as special as my vx with my modifications.
