But I only have one tube on it.

No need for a pixie then.
Doesn't sound like the misconfig one of the dutch guys had with similar result.

I have measured the voltage at the MAP sensor. Ignition on. Motor not running. I get 0V, 0V and 5V. Does that seem right? New MAP sensor ordered though.

Had similar on my SC recently. Autoelectrician found out that it was the manifold air pressure sensor, whose voltage was just slightly going out of range - it sends a very small voltage from the sensor so doesn't have to be far out. Cleaning contacts didn't fix it. Part no. was FAC10.3024.

I spent a week first doing all the recommended checks from the forum and Courtenay first, but still kept dying at full throttle 4500rpm but would always re-start if turned ignition off then on again, which I became pretty good at doing on the move if careful not to engage steering lock!

The SC will also go into similar 'safe mode' due to exhaust back-pressure if the exhaust is partially blocked eg. a melting cat which I had once, or if you restrict the exhaust a bit with extra track silencing that reduces the flow too much, which I also did. I seem to be doing a lot of destruction testing, but I do look after it, honest!

You describe my symptons exactly.

I asked my local Opel dealer and they could sell me sensors for 3-4 times the price from courtenay.
Does that mean that the original part could live a little bit longer than 5 weeks maybe.
Or is it Opel that charges whatever they want?

If the typenumber is linked to the speedster, then yes.
Therefore the art of finding out the generic/other part number for a piece is vital.

No, not linked to the Speedster.
It was some of the models that used the 1,7 cdti engine.
I don't think that has been in a speedster. :P

Got the time to take away the old MAP sensor today while the new one is on it's way.
I think the old one might be broken.......

But why?
Have I done something wrong that might cause this?

Did you seal it or fit it dry as with this map sensor it doesn't fit perfect you want to smear some sealer around it so it doesn't move or leak . Once changed car will be good as that is well buggered lol

I fitted it dry with a home made alu clamp holding it in place.

I think it requires a Joe mod with some electric tape at a specific location for a tight fit.
Wait for someone who can tell more details on this.

EEEHHRR! Joe Mod. Insulation tape, tight fit. It all came back to me. My face turned red. The black thing that looks just like insulation tape in the pic is insulation tape. Applied by myself under the orange seal to increse the diameter to make it a tight fit. I am so ashamed. And happy in a way. Now I know the rootcause. I knew it was a bad idea to modify my car myself..... Is tigerseal around the base of the sensor the next way to go?
