which he left two months ago.
Though i thought his articles to be medocre. Not a great loss. Though to be honest evo is pretty sh** anyway.
I generally like Chris' writing to be honest.
No bullsh1t with him really, and tells it like it is. Talented behind the wheel as well and a real genuine petrolhead who still gets excited about cars, fast ro not.
However, in person he is a bit of a law unto himself and often a grumpy bugger.
Oh, and as I found out yesterday, will NOT ride in a helicopter

This car's just been updated. Same power, but it's shed 50kg's.
I'm thinking they've missed something. There are plenty of + 300bhp 4cylinder cars these days - you don't need a big, heavy 3.5litre V6 to get that power output. Doing so might put the car under a ton again.
Or why not keep the V6 but have a respectable power output - that car would be a giant killer?
I would still dealy like one though.

With the Evora 400 having the same engine config, it makes me wonder why there is no exige 400 (yet?)
Should be just a smaller pully right?

If that tvs is currently uncooled pulling 350, means it could easily do 500 when cooled.

New owner of a V6 Exige (having come from an Evora now that CocoPops, PaulCP and others have contaminated it
The Exige 400 is enroute next year. Sadly it's not a simple swap to the Evora 400 engine. Due to the charge cooler that's required, the Exige body needs to be redesigned to fit it. All the little changes then bolted on a lot more weight - and at it's current weight it's already too hefty for some. So for the time being, they've gone for the middle ground and trimmed the car before making it fat again.
That said, downgrading to a 4pot again isn't really on the cards. The V6 Exige is far better planted than the VXT I used to have - able to put the power down, but also not get hit with unexpected backend losses. If they switch back to a 4 pot, they'll lose that lovely V6 sound, balance and a heck of a lot of empty space in the V6 chassis (the rear subframe is straight from the Evora, as the Exige V6 was the test mule originally)

A v6 and lotus chassis should not need to go over 1000 KG IMO. Christ knows what they have done to the Evora to make it so heavy, all but lost Colin Chapmans mantra....

It's not lost the Lotus though. Just before Chapman died, Lotus were designing a 4 seater The Evora's not a lightweight, but compared to the rivals it's still not a fattie

Hmmm. I remember when anything fast was sub 1000 KG.
However, I agree with you partly, the Evora is relatively lightweight compared to much of the current competition, but in absolute terms (which is what determines agility and power/weight ratio) it is heavy. Having said that I'd like to drive one round some bends to see what it handles like, I suspect it will be very good, only let down by medicore BHP/KG ratio when accelerating.
Lotus should not really aim at competing directly with the big names IMO, sticking with the "mantra" of light weight will make them stand apart and make sales to those of us who know a little more than the suggestible masses under the influence of the marketing wheels.

Completely agree. Everything always seems to be compared/benchmarked against Porsche at the moment, which is a flawed philosophy. Lotus won't ever compete with Porsche on build quality - or atleast not for the foreseeable future!
The Evora is pretty much a grown up VX by all standards. The amount of us who jumped over the fence to one is quite substantial and growing!

So that's why you bought the Exige 😜😜😜 Nev, you should, I think you'd be surprised. There will also be a 500bhp aftermarket kit available next year (currently 430bhp is available) to satisfy those who have a hunger for more power👍New owner of a V6 Exige (having come from an Evora now that CocoPops, PaulCP and others have contaminated it

Maybe not so easy.

You should try driving an Evora before saying it has lost the the Chapman DNA.. Yes its not light, but it does not feel anywhere like a ~1,400kg car such are its responses and deftness (?).. Power to weight is down a good bit on many VX's, but an NA Evora would pull the pants down on a technical road in less than perfect conditions, on all but the best driven VX's / Elige's..
Problem is there's a limited market (and thus revenue) from light-weight cars ultimately.
