Thanks for all this guys, I am slowly understanding the issues. So, on OEM standard rear rims fitted all round, using federal tyres , I could safely go for: Rear : 225/45r17 (standard) Front : 205/40r17 Would I need spacers? The idea is to have as little spacer as possible for the front. If I understand correctly, the closest to negative offset I can get, the better for handling, and spacers affect the offset? Damn, I am scared of writing something completely stupid.

see my other reply No you should not need spacers with standard rear rims fitted on the front with 205/40/17 unless your car is different to most Vx in some way I understand Alex is running 215s but if I am correct that is on tubby rims which have a different offset so a little more room is available

The rear wheels run 38 ish offset and the fronts 22, so 16mm spacers to maintain offset. Some have run without, but i wouldnt.

Spoke too soon, and it's a bit embarrasing cause I should have checked. 205/40r17 is not available for Federal 595RSR, just Kumhos. Is there another size combination I could use? where the tyres are available?

215/40/ZR17 83W would be ideal on a 7.5J wheel

its a road speed that the tyre is certified for the load rating ZR = 149+mph , then consult the extra code , for the above tyres its a 83W ( so its 168mph at a max wweight of 487 KG per tyre)

Deffo, you now have 0.5mm less inner arch clearance than with a 205.
