Im not too fussed about going lower, its the hitting the bump stops thats the issue.

Ive now re-fitted the old suspension on the front and its fine, I will phone gaz tomorrow and see if they have any ideas.

in the meantime can anyone confirm from these pics that these front units are correct for a VX220? The other 2 sets of coilovers Ive had before have never had this 'stalk' bit on the front, only on the back -

next to the old unit, you can see that I have it wound right the way down and the car sits just slightly higher than the old suspension, which you can see could go lower still.

evidence of bump stop taking a battering

this is the back one, you can see here there is loads of thread to go lower.

I think the fronts have been built/boxed wrong.

atm your having to wind it down to get the height and by doing that your closing the gap to the bump stops. if you remove the helper springs you gain an extra 2" maybe so you can wind the coil back up the body by 2" the height remains the same but the distance from the cylinder to bumpstop is increased.

Your fronts should be shorter than the rears. So if you have 2 sets of rears you will have problems. I think the GGP2 have the stalks on both but Cliffe can confirm.

Measured from chassis to floor.

Adjusters and body at the bottom on the GGPII, makes no odds as to the adjusters being in board or outboard as long as there is clearance.

You will need to fit the lowered top mounts if you want to limbo down to 110mm front but at these heights you are seriously stretching the geometry and upsetting the handling. To go to 100mm front you will need to look into GT hubs and different wishbone angles. I run mine at 110mm front on the monotubes.

Ive heard others having problem with these aint beeing able to lower the car very much. And he is going to buy Elise parts lowering mounts. Whats the difference between theese GGP2 for VX and for Elise? If I took a GGP2 for a Elise S2 in front of my VX, wouldnt this lower the car some bits?

I've got GGP's (1 not 2) and once I'd bunged them on I took the car to back on track to have everything set up... They said before they started the front was 95mm, there was still thread to go lower and I only seemed to hit the bump stops when crashing down potholes. I'm now at 120 front and 130 rear and everything seems happy. The adjusters are almost in the middle of the thread which is assume is where they're happiest? Seems obvious but I assume you have front and rear the right way round. Anyone know why they switched the design to put the body at the bottom on the 2's? I thought the body was at the top on the 1's (and originals) to reduce the unsprung weight?

Looking at the pictures again something is wrong. The front shock is too long and giving you almost no travel before you reached the ride hight of the previous old Gaz damper? Have they sent out ones for the Elise?

Hmmm, awesome service would be a shock that's fit for purpose. Not one that needs to be sent back to be tweaked to work.

On a mass produced Astra/Focus type car I would agree, but not on something thrown together in a shed in Norfolk.

So this is interesting - given I seem to have the same issues at 120mm front ride height (ie little shock travel left). If you sort yours out with the lowered mounts I may go same way.

Interestingly you only have 1 adjuster ring there. My GGP2 fronts have two (ie a locking ring) like the rears.?

I'm sure time will tell what the issue is. I find it hard to believe the shocks too long, a single test fit would have highlighted that!

Hey mate, hopefully this picture helps a bit, I've got the same as you and when I fitted them I fitted them upside down to start with. Hope it helps, great shocks I've found for all purpose use, do find you can hear them making for want of a better word a squelching sound as they go up and down but nothing too bad.
