from the thread over on AoC

thread link fixed, http://www.astraowne...d-Z20lex-engine

I've ordered one to evaluate, but this may push stage 4 engines beyond the limit of the rods

Am I right in thinking you can't have a different manifold unless you change the turbo?

My mates got one on his z20leh Astra van track weapon. He says its a decent bit of kit. He had trouble with clearance on the alternator and and to get a thermal gasket to space it out to clear the alternator and had to get bigger o rings for his injectors but once that was sorted its mint now and it's stage 4 with 3 inch and he made 311bhp and about 350 ft lb I think so nice improvement on stage 4

the flange thickness has been increased to match tolerances to the alternator.

Just by looking at the casting you can see why these thing optimise top end power. Short fat tapered runners are a classic design for top end power. They will push the peak torque figure down the rev range by some extent and additionally allow the engine to breath far better at high revs due to less inlet port air stacking. It's about time someone started making some chepaer but effective parts for our little engines, it gaulled me how much I had to pay for my Klassen inlet 3 years ago in order to achieve the same thing. Building a decent engine with cheap parts for E.Europe takes quite a lot less money nowadays. I expect there will be load of 400+ BHP engines about soon, in Astras and Corsas etc. Eventually there will be a few more VX'ers trying this out hopefully, seeing as its the most suitable Vauxhall car to stick them in.

As Steve says in his first post the upgraded inlet manifolds only really give more power above 5500rpm so you'll need the map altering to increase the rev limiter, at which point std LET rods on a 300bhp st4 are going to be very close to letting go....

Definatly not a risk I'd have taken on a std engine but with forged rods and an increased rev limit its a must I think thumbsup

Looking at the CS dyno sheet for a Klassen inlet manifold on a K04 & you'll see where the gains come in!

52bhp @ 6500 & 60bhp @ 7000 which is where I want my limiter set at, why would'nt you have one on a high power build and if this manifold for £250 is as good then bargain of the year I'd say!!! :)
