Vocky, after you said that, I'm starting to think it can make perfect sense !!! In the rear part of the car, in the engine bay there were plenty of dirt, and it looks like a mud from a swamp... but I was not thinking about the fluid as the interior of the car was clean, no signs of fluid, the car started from the first turn of a key. Was working normally, no extra sounds, but as i could not drive the car I let the engine work just for a minute. So there is possibility that just the rear part was in the water... And that would explain the full coolant expansion tank (if the coolant is in the system it should be missing in the cooling system) , and the rusty clutch ? or the clutch got rusty from the leaked brake fluid? So the first work is to check the oil cooler then. Is the right way to see if it keeps the preasure of 10 bars?

It seems there is more simple way to test the oil cooler than to put it under the pressure :

talked to engine mechanics, I was assured the symptoms show broken head gasket, not the oil cooler. Wonder if it's worth changing the timing chain, car has covered just 70k KM?

Doesn't you video show the cooler to be leaking? If so there's your problem. The head gaskets on these very, very, rarely fail. While you've got the engine out def change the timing chain for peace of mind. Also balaencer delete and check water pump for weeping. I'm sure Mr Vocky will give you more things to change while it's there :)

oh it was just a you tube clip, because I was thinking I'll need to check what pressure the oil cooler keeps...

Head gasket failure is very, very rare on the z22se, unless you have run the engine with no coolant it will not have blown. I still think it's been under water due to the rusty flywheel etc

Yes, and it started at once, the engine work was normal, just could not drive it because of the faulty slave cylinder.
next week the mechanic will open the engine and will see what's the problem. w

Could also be a cracked head from an over-torqued sparkplug? But indeed.. The rusty clutch and general 'icky' state of the bellhousng interior seems to indicate that the rear of the car has suffered some form of water damage/submersion in it's past. Bye, Arno.

Just back from a mechanic. The engine has been under the water... We found rust everywhere: on camshafts, timing chain, cylinder, valves.... it's not like a disaster, and the engine will be fine, but it shows that it was water inside... It's still a mystery how the engine appeared under the water or just a part of it, but it's a fact. Vocky, you were 110% right! thumbsup respect man, your authority is growing each minute in my eyes....

it's possible it ended up backwards in a river after the accident

You should also check the gearbox and fuel tank for any signs of water damage thumbsup

As the engine is gone for the cleaning, I need to move on, as the spring is finally coming to Lithuania, and the weather will be suitable for a ride.
The old brake discs had a plenty of life in them, but there very rusty:

so decided to change them to new nicer looking drilled and painted discs + armored brake lines:
Posted Image
did the installation according to all instructions :) :
Posted Image
after a lot of thinking, decided to go for a red brake caliper color (think best choice for a silver car):
Posted Image
still didn't decide what brake pads to buy. don't have a wide offer for speedster brake pads here in Lithuania, to say the truth there is no offer at all ...
was thinking about REMSA brake pads, can get a good price, these don't squeeze, not sure how these will behave on a track, but most time planing to spend in the streets. will need to search the forum on this topic.

Drained the gear box today, to see if any water is in the gear box, but I was lucky and didn't find it. But instead of a gear box oil I found ATF .... Didn't find any data that ATF was an option for NA gear box. Will replace it with fully synthetic 75w90 oil. Hope the gear box will work fine after ATF. my car and the previous owner becomes more and more a mystery to me

Some update on the progress:
the engine was disassembled to check the head for a crack. The answer was negative, so with new gaskets and valve seam seals, new belt tensioner, new clutch was assembled back. Some pictures of the oil pan:

and after cleaning:

Putting back the engine in to the car was way easier than getting it out:

some changes in the brake system:
before:

and after ( new drilled discs, Hel brake hoses, painted calipers, Ferodo DS perfomance brake pads):

not so much left but the body work is killing me :saw:
