Cheers - should the key still unlock then? It turns and depresses freely but just doesn't open

I thought the key holes where fake and unusable anyway? Is it a flat battery or another issue? If it's the battery and you're really stuck you can prod at the bonnet mechanism through the passenger wheel arch liner. That's only any good if you don't store the lock nut in it's holder though!

cheers lads, apologies for the silence, but i managed to get into it so went out!! i noted that it turned over a little slower than ideal so need to be thinking about getting the bike optimate onto it for tricklicharging the battery i bet. i think its either that the keyfob batteries are low or possibly that its signal strength - i eventually got it unlocked and locked by holding the remote over the base of the wiper arm from outside - does anyone know where the sensor is for it? at least i know i can ignore that lock on the passenger side now! thanks

Have you got a hard top or a soft top on the car? If soft top, either stretch, or just snip the cable and then you can get the roof off and you are in. or get a wire in there and wind down the window, should be easy enough as there is little resistance from the winder. if hard top, it may be possible to get to the electrics and put on a trickle charger

It might be worth having your own secret cig lighter socket ont he car, so should you ever need to charge it you can, down through the passenger front arch maybe?

only soft top at the moment, thanks davemate, thats also a good idea about the charger - i think i will get a weather plug like from the motorbike and get that accessible but hidden from outside so that if i go out and its dead i can plug it in for a while been ages since i "enjoyed" motoring like this - am far too used to wondering out after 2 weeks of not using the motor and jumping into a heated leather seat with auto and cruise control to sleep up the motorway somewhere. still think its going to be worth it ;-)

Drive it enough, you will get used to driving the vx and then laugh at other cars and the things they dont need.

Glad to be of some help :)

£4.49 on ebay. Those eyelets should fit on the smaller nuts that branch off the main terminals of the battery, if not you can just cut them off and crimp on bigger ones.

And replace the central locking backup battery that's in the boot. It sounds like your battery was getting near the too flat to do much state and it's probably a knackered backup battery continually drawing current from the main battery but, unable to store it.

Secret button?

Hardly secret. It's the small black button inbetween the rear number plate lights on a C/L equipped turbo. It connects an additional small back up battery in the boot to enable you to unlock the car with the fob as normal in the event of your main battery going flat.
That's the theory anyway, most will have died by now. 3kg of pointless added weight IMO , I ripped mine out.
