Ahh I wondered what that did; that explains the slight battery noise when its pressed.... I may still have an operational one then :D

I'd replace it with a setup of 8x rechargeable AA's , smaller and lighter

Hmmm, seriously?

And replace the central locking backup battery that's in the boot. It sounds like your battery was getting near the too flat to do much state and it's probably a knackered backup battery continually drawing current from the main battery but, unable to store it.

Mine was reading around 5v when I removed it the other day so completly dead and useless. It would not accpet a re-conditioning cycle from the ctek either. The wires that go to it are live all the time so it will be adding strain. Probably not such an issue if you have a healthy one as there is an inline device to prevent it from relinquishing it's charge once full.

Probably being dumb, what do you do then? Hold the secret button in and then press the keyfob?

Yep, essentially holding the push to make button momentarilly completes the circuit with the back up battery thus hopefully providing the central locking unit with enough juice to actuate the door pins.

same friggin story today annoyingly, i now face adding about 20 minutes to my journey whilst i do the door-unlock-dance, and the joy of whether i will even get in at all at the moment! having decided that first port of call is replacing the batteries in the keyfob i have been searching and reading on here for a few hours, i think that as i have an 05 turbo it means i actually have the "Cobra 8581" instead of a meta - anyone able to confirm by any chance please? next from there is whether i can whip the old batteries out and a new set in without needing to reprogram or not, i only have 1 key and fob (addressing that next), and i do have the red card. if i do need to reprogram its then whether i can do so without needing a working fob as well and do it myself, or whether i get another fob delivered ASAP and train that then replace the other batteries. or do i just call the dealer and tell him to come and get it and bring it back when it fcukin works (thats keyfob and secret button/batteries)!! :angry2:

No, all VX's have Meta's. Elise/Exiges changed to Cobra's.

ah, cheers techie, i was wrestling with showing the pic another way as it doesnt seem to like the URL to a dropbox file. that makes more sense now youve said it. off to continue my research on changing meta batteries. might have an option as a mate fits them to bikes if i get stuck and need a main stealer... cheers

When my alarm/central locking fobs were playing up, I decided to lock my car the old fashioned way with door button and key for a few days before I got new batteries - I thought the risk of being locked out of the car was greater than the risk from not setting the alarm.

Key is useless in locks when central locking is fitted

I have central locking as standard, and if I choose I can just lock the car by putting the key in the locks. When locked manually, the button just depresses but doesn't open the door.

Could be the same problem I had the other week. Over time the external rubber button wears down so doesn't make contact with the button on the internal circuit board. Try taking the fob apart and pressing the button on the circuit board directly.

hi cookies, i wasnt getting any joy when i was trying to unlock by key, the drivers side is blanked off and the passengers just turned either way but it was like the door button wasnt connected to anything - in yours does it make the difference whether you locked it manually or by remote then?

has anyone changed the batteries in their remotes themselves - if youre quick with it do you need to repogramme? i rang the main stealer, as it turned out i dont have the red card i only have the car pass, they didnt know what i was on about but said pop down with some money and all my ID etc anyway?! they did a little survey whilst i sat there listening at this end of the phone and of 7 people 5 didnt think it would need reprogramming :glare: the joy of car main dealers - i had forgotten about this!

Yep, swapped batteries without any issue. It's only a 5 second job, once you've opened up the remote.

thanks all, not sure what the smittencat is, and fingers crossed that isnt a frowny thing from vxed - but i suspect i deserve it! have just had some bad experiences with metas on my motorbikes and thought i would rather check in advance. still hoping for an opportunity to be able to help out on here rather than being the needy nooby.... :-)

Smittencat was a suspected forum troll from a few weeks back. Just happened to notice she it was online and reading this thread that's all.
