thanks all, not sure what the smittencat is, and fingers crossed that isnt a frowny thing from vxed

Smittencat was a suspected forum troll from a few weeks back. Just happened to notice she it was online and reading this thread that's all.

C'mon don't be cruel to smittencat, it's a Friday, she/he/it seemed lovely :poke:

morning all, firstly apologies for being a continued pain in the ass, and for this being the second longest running mundane saga on here (sorry detta ;-) )

here's where i am with things - in a combination of venting / saying it out loud to try and understand what i can do.........
  • have confirmed the issue is the fob - the batteries dont make good enough connections as it seems like the solder at one of the legs has gone
  • dont have the meta card
  • only have the 1 fob and key
  • spoke to vauxhall and surprise surprise they were clueless about getting a red card
  • from a load of research/ phone calls seem to have confirmed that there isnt a way to read the code from the remotes or train a new one without the code (some metas could go into "learn mode" and then train additional remotes from a working one
  • desperately dont want to remove the dash myself nor leave it to the dealer i bought the car from as its been alcantara wrapped and i think the plates sprayed black too
  • can get the stereo out if thats really a goer to get the alarm ECU out?
am currently having not to arm the thing and then lock the drivers side by pressing the exterior door handle button in and forcing the pin down, then locking and unlocking the passengers door by key

i think this basically leaves me with either A - trying to find a main dealer who knows what they are doing (an oximoron perhaps!) and getting a red card, then buying a meta remote and coding or B - getting the alarm ECU (hopefully through the stereo void) and sending off to abacus - hopefully either option will be funded by the dealer i bought it from (who also not a lot of help funnily enough)

again sorry for the saga and the long post - am really frustrated about this at the moment as i keep getting stuck places whilst the car wont let me in or being an hour late leaving for somewhere!

appreciate any thoughts i might have missed or a reality check / virtual slap in the face..........

cheers, dan

p.s - red card route seems to be my preference but is a bit comlicated as i dont have the V5 back with my name on yet (only getting it tomorrow with the original plate back on it from last owner)

Yeah as above try and resolder it. Might be the easiest route.

If the dash has been out to be covered and new dash plates put on, odds are it will be much easier to remove than if it was as original. Really not a difficult job to do

hhmm, solder remote, now theres a clever idea - and simple too - dont i feel stupid!! i cant solder but must have a mate who can, will check around. thats a grand fix for the temporary issue actually so thanks guys. ideally i'll get the dealer to foot the cost of resolving long term so as fezza has a logical point about the dash having already been out once maybe i can carefully do it and get the dealer to either send off to abacus and pay or let me do it and pay me back. at this rate i am going to have to just start buying people drinks to say thanks for the understanding / support / help - i cant see me getting to a point where i am having suggestions for other people :S unless anyone wants to know about, actually i dont think i know anything anymore. oh dear.....
