Hello! Just thought I'd introduce myself on hear. Names dave from Essex, near Colchester. Bought my vxt last Wednesday and loving the experience. I came from a 2008 civic type r to this. Quite a change for an everyday car but the drive is superb. Any tips for winter use? Had my locks freeze yesterday morning so thinking of covering the car at night to save the hassle in the cold early mornings! Oh, and the alarm is on the blink, not a good start! Thanks for reading

Not a good start? That's a great start! :D Welcome. The Essex meets are, errrrr, sporadic. Man in a hats fault really. Keep an eye out in the meets section for updates on Essex meets. Rob999 is the President of V'Essex. There is an Essex curry if you can in Rayleigh on the 22nd December. Our very own 'king cutn is paying :D Locks freezing - very common as are the gear cables occasionally. Cover will go a long way and safe the paint bubbling. Alarm - whats the issue? I can't claim to know much about the issues with those as I never use mine but I know they are not the best. Post up some photos buddy

Post some pics up when you have time. In this weather if you are leaving it outside it would be advisable to get a cover.

Welcome Dave. Alarm could be going off due to wireless doorbells at a neighbours. Could be the battery starting to go. As for sporadic meets, cheeky fcuker Chris  Come along to the curry if you fancy it. And I'm definitely not any kind of President, Essex is a democracy :)

Thanks for the welcome guys. Was a member on civinfo for the civic, they were extremely helpful bunch, as it seems you guys are. Unfortunately I'm out the Friday and Saturday for my works Christmas meals. The meets sound good though. Will definitely keep my eye open for them. Are there covers specific for our cars or just get a universal one? The bloody alarm keeps going off. It's fine for an hour or so then will go off, and repeat this a further 3 times! So I gave up with it and just lock it from the locks. Should be going back to dealer for them to look at it soon.

Are your windows fully closed? Maybe they need adjusting. Depends on budget but stormforce do one for £120 that's specific to the VX. Otherwise buy a halfords one if your budget is less.

Welcome

Halfords cover is a good buy IMO...and get some big towels and place over screen and drivers side covering the lock at same time...and dont forget when out to leave de icer under rear wheel on cold nights for that "emergency"

HH have fun and dont forget, no heavy pedal until the corner has been completed...tis the time of winter slippy roads

Welcome Dave.
Got my first VX a few weeks ago - Wireless doorbell sets off the alarm and the VX alarm can ring the door bell as well. Just bought a new door bell with 256 different channels all of which made absolutely no difference to the problem. Now it's either leave the alarm off (though not good from an invalidating the insurance point of view) or buy an exchange/replacement Meta99T2 controller from abacus car alarms for £99 which is probably what I'll do, though rand them a few days ago and their answer machine message says they are already on holiday for Christmas until 3 January - wish I could get that long off!!

Definitely not the door bell cos it's going off where ever I go! Sent the garage an email where i got it from and am going to sort something out with them. (If they're capable enough that is). The abacus is definitely an option if all else fails.
How have people's experience with vauxhall dealers been or should I stay we'll clear?!

Tbh most buy their cars private from members on here. Dealers have their use (warranty/finance) but hold a premium which I feel isn't worth it. They also have no clew of these cars so are never any real help when problems arise. I'd get your car serviced at a specialist garage like PSR or BOT. They know these cars in and out and will always do their best to fix any problems. For parts you can go to autovaux or just go through one of the garages above. Mapping or tuning then look at the tired and tested maps from CS or MMG. I know little of AMDs turbo mapping but their service and professionalism is second to nun from my dealings.

PSR are in Bishops Stortford. BoT are in Guildford. There are other places, Essex Auto sport, Hangar111, plans etc but I'd go with either of the two mentioned by Stu.

I would also vouch for Moreland Lotus in Hammersmith. I know by their location clearly they aren't in most people's minds but Steve and Tony are good old pros at what they do.
