Replacing Engine Bulkhead Firewall Material

its not actually that heat proof , so was looking at what other material could be used to replace it and how much you would need h x w maybe two , 24" x 24" sheets of http://compare.ebay....&var=sbar&cbt=y

Lee has used that gold stuff in his coupe thread. He replaced the whole bulkhead with a sheet of ali covered with the gold material.

its the black fibre material , I'm keeping the sheet metal wall.

just wondering how easy it is to strip off the black material, some of the fuel pipes / filter are in the way

easiest option is to cut it away :saw:

However if you wish to save it then the slow boring option will be to carefully remove everything preventing it coming out :(

Easy, if you cut it, to free it up where the clips are mounted.

I never noticed any difference with the interior sound deadening still in place :huh:

But then I normally drive it with the roof off :P

So really this fire wall fabric is not needed as i thought it was there for a reason to prevent heat and worse case if the engine caught fire it would give you more time to get out as it would stop the flames.

I'm using this stuff http://www.camauto.c...adhesive-backed 24"x 36" will just about do it. The 20% discount code doesn't work ATM but I've been assured it will be reactivated Monday :)

The black carpet isn't stuck down and comes off in one lump if your trim a little at the sides like this

Looked at that pic and thought something wasn't quite right, but couldn't pin it down......Ok, no engine but...... ah yes, that's it, you have a fecking great hole in your bulkhead :lol: Ready for a DH tea tray panel?

Got it in one :) just got to stick the heatshield on and all done. Oh and the photo was taken half way through, it looks a lot neater now :)
