I have a NA rear clam not on the car at the moment fully in tact. You would need to collect it and not be destructive with it or the paint. How long would you need it?

Thanks Matt, I will buy the VX CAD model. Jason, I have a spare rear clam already, which I'm happy to use, but thanks for the offer!

Max could you make the coupe back taper off and finish quite near the back of the clam ????

Yeah, I wanted to follow the angle & flow of the buttresses back to where the boot leading edge is. It may be possible to reuse the boot lid but tilt it to form the coupe back by either extending the boot lid to meet the buttresses or widening the buttresses. However, this may look just pants.
Alternatively, I may enlist the help from may panel maker to produce a "proper" coupe back perfectly in aluminium. It wouldn't take him long, he's so talented. At the same time, I'd like to get him to make some custom made flared arches. Maybe, with a section from the arches to a new air intake. This would replace the side pods, as to my eyes, the intakes look a bit Heath Robinson.

I will most likely not go down the route of a pivoting clam as much as I would like to as not many would be interested, but mine will be quick release nevertheless.

Watch this space, but time is my big enemy due to work this summer.

quick release single piece coupe rear clam would be perfect for the racers.... The fact that you produce full clams for the cost of the hardtop and coupe rear lid is mind boggling Excellent work thumbsup

So just for my understanding: is Johnnyboy planning on making stock rear clams for the masses, and Max is back to his original plan of commissioning his own customised coupe version? Do we need to separate this into two threads?

I dont want to step on any toes. You guys know the front end is imminent I can do the rear if 5 people sign up. That will help a lot with the tooling costs. What I will do is make another thread at the time I have some time with my pattern maker available. In a way its all academic until we put resin to clam. On the subject of a clam we would need as goos a one as possible ot possibly take a bubbly one, repair it and then take a mold. We have a particular way of doing the molds so the donor clam may not come out too well. All the vents and holes are filled in before molding with body filler and sometimes the edges of the clam can snap when the filler is removed. Taking a bubbly one and repairing may be the best way to do it as the donor car just gets a new clam. Anyway I'll pop up a thread in a month or two when we are a bit further on with existing projects.

Well, I was sent a low-res surface model of the VX. Spent an hour, it's not great but a coupe back like this can be easily made with quick release clips or top hinged.

If it could be hinged to the roll bar cover that would sell it for me.

That actually looks pretty neat - can you do a shiny "all fx" render or is it not high def enough for that? What does quick release actually mean? Those metal latch things all over the place? (ugly!) If it's still practical as a road-car (ie. can still get at the boot reasonably easily) then i could be persuaded as well :)

And replace the original engine hood, and lock in the original lock mechanism.
Like the german design. Just not costing 3500 euro :D
