I would be interested if you could still use the factory hardtop, so just the rollbar cover and coupe back would be required

I think the hardtop would have to be a separate part anyhow, wouldn't it? Otherwise you wouldn't be able to take the roof off at all, and that would ruin summer :)

Just need some sort of venetian or vertical blind mechanism to adjust the slats in the coupe back for the full aero benefits or for cooling. :P

I had a good meeting today with the guy's who would make the clams.
Right, I've decided to do what I want, as there are too many variations & requirements to keep everyone happy.

I will more than likely commissioning the rear clam myself. The clams can be either Carbon fibre or Carbon Kevlar or lightweight fiberglass construction. At this moment in time, the clams will need to be painted. However, it may be possible to produce a really high quality mould,
which may be good enough to leave unpainted.

I want a very lightweight rear clam which will be externally identical to the OEM clam except:

1. No boot (I may be able to get a boot bulkhead made up which could be bonded in afterwards & an inner boot lid cover?)
2. Approx 20-25mm wider wheel arches (or possibly leave standard & have separate bolt on wider arches)
3. Extended Buttresses as per the Cad images
4. Coupe Back incorporating Roll hoop cover (This will not effect roof)
5. Coupe back to be top hinged or possibly the coupe grill area to be hinged. (see link below, I may be able to use off the shelf hinges like this)
http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/bed-hinge-mechanism/locking-bed-mechanism
6. No vent cut outs (You will need make your own if required)
7. Estimated weight saving 45-60%, maybe a little more depending on material & thickness used. Carbon fibre being the lightest option but Carbon Kevlar the best suited to impacts & knocks.

Any comments?

Quite right, this is your project so you should stick to your guns, get what you originally wanted out of it, if you can find some other people who are happy with the same design and want one too then then that's an added bonus Personally i think i'm out - lack of side vents and losing the boot put me off - i'm completely useless when it comes down to practical stuff so there's no way i'd be able to cut out the necessary side vents or bond pieces of boot back together (at least not without it leaking to like a sieve) which would mean i'd have to pay someone else to do it and that's just going to start to make the overall cost of this creep back up again to where i might as well continue down the route of fixing what i've already got. Out of curiosity, how do you plan on keeping the rain out of the engine bay with the louvres? Or isn't that as much of a problem as i think it is? I guess the existing boot lids have the grilles that let all the water in after all, just seems a little like it's exposing the engine to the elements a bit more than before (can imagine drunk people poking beer bottles in the slots or something if you leave it parked in town on a saturday night) Good luck with it and i look forward to seeing the results :)

Same for me, carbon Kevlar sounds sexy but I'm only interested in identical OEM replacements (hopefully of higher quality). I'll just live with what I've got and see if we can sort something out with jonnyboy when his facilities are available.

Good luck with it and I look forward to seeing the outcome!
