Hi all, i was involved in an RTA this evening. I was driving home on a route i often drive. It was on the A35 near Christchurch. it's a very dark stretch of road that goes to 2 lanes for about 500 yards for overtaking. I was in the outside lane overtaking a car when i suddenly see a huge lorry pull out of a lay by right across 3 lanes! i just saw it's amber lights they have on the trailer. I swerved left to avoid hitting the back of the trailer and then slid as i applied the brakes at the same time. i then slid the other way after trying to steer in to the slide and ended up in a ditch luckily avoiding anything hard! It's a Miracle i didn't hit a car or a tree! There is some damage to the front clam where i went in to the ditch. The lorry didn't stop but came back to the lay-by about 10 minutes later whilst i was on the phone to the police. As i was about to walk over it did the same thing again and pulled across 3 lanes of traffic on a busy dark stretch of road!! I caught a quick glimpse of the side and i think it was some sort of dairy truck. Currently trying to hunt down the company and driver but not having much luck!! Really don't want to go through the insurance, i have it booked in for a paint touch up anyway so i'm hoping he can just repair the damage. I had to drive the car in to the field and take the farmers gate of the hinges to recover the car. Didn't want to risk damaging anything pulling it out backwards. I drove it home and everything felt fine so that's good. Just looks to be cosmetic. I'll get some photos up tomorrow when it' light. Just really gutted about it but i feel very lucky to be alive! All this after a month at sea. Great first day back on land! :(

Yeah will do, looks like the clam has split nearside between the grill and the wheel arch, i think it was the splitter that got ripped off that caused it.

Nope... there a was a slight crack in the headlight plastic before the accident due to a pot hole!! It's now a large hole where the plastic has been shocked. That will be the main expense! i do have a spare from another VX but i will have to replace at some point!

Was pretty lucky it came to stop on relatively flat ground, on soft bracken, down a soft verge. Just some cracking to the clam. I think he was very lucky! There is a tree just to the right!

I'd be more interested in getting hold of the driver. You should have been straight over when he came back.

As i said in the original post, he drove off as i was about to walk over. I wasn't close to the lay-by, it was about 500 yards away from the scene of the accident. It was also very dark and on a busy road and i was in shock so not quite as easy as that unfortunately.

Mate. I really feel for you but it could have been ten times worse. Hope you get it sorted at a cheap price. Good luck in finding him. Can't believe there was no other witnesses etc.

How unlucky but also lucky you walked a way, not sure you will be able to trace the truck unless it was a Wiseman truck (black and white) like a cow. Gutted for you, hopefully a cheep ish fix.
