About the Z22YH the CR is curiously advertised as 12:1 here and there
https://en.wikipedia...II_engine#Z22YH
And 11.3:1 for the 2.2 JTS used on Alfa-Romeo
JTS uses a different head doesn't it. Great if the pistons are compatible

Not sure of the overall design fundamentally different, but it features direct injection so is not compatiable without modification.

Has the Z22SE block, wonder what the head profile is like. Just want the pistons so the DI ain't a problem. Though the rods and crank are probably Alpha specific.

reading...... direct injection has a different piston top profile so they are no good for the job.

Both the 2.2JTS and the Z22YH use direct injection.
The Z22YH pistons are compatible (no combustion chamber in the piston as seen on others direct injection engines).
For the 2.2 JTS, i don't know.

Would be ok but.... the Z22YH pistons needs the Z22YH rods.

Yes but the Z22YH pistons and rods are heavier than the Z22se ones.
I've been told that you can re-use your Z22se rings and avoid a honing process

that is the info I also found when considering pistons, wiseco make custom 11:1 pistons to order and I have three spares sat in my shed. But you can only buy a set of four

have dropped them a mail. What compression you running vocky (your still NA aren't you?)

From j-body.org
Factory pistons from a Honda K20A have the same bore and wrist pin diameter. Compression height is about 3mm taller.

according to the Mad Doc's calculations you can skim 1mm from the head to get 11:1 CR
or just use the 11:1 CR z22yh pistons and rods
To quote a source
The z22yh DI pistons are drastically different from your typical pistons
Anybody know how they react to having a Z22SE cylinder head on top?

Modern direct injection pistons are but the YH was an early model so are pretty much normal pistons moral of the story don't believe anything written on an internet forum most people just regurgitate sh*t.To quote a source

I have built a few engines using the z22yh pistons and rods to raise the CR, they seem to work very well.
It's the saab 2.0 and later vvt pistons which have a different shape crown and are not really ideal.

Good to hear. Where are you folk sourcing your z22yh pistons and rods? Secondhand? New?
Posted 11 August 2013 - 03:57 PM
secondhand z22yh blocks go for under £200, you can either swap the crank or swap the rods and pistons into your engine (you need to use the rods because they have a larger gudgen pin)

Thanks vocky. What vauxhall models run with a z22yh engine?

2004> Vectra C or Signum use the z22yh engine and I believe the later zafira did too
