Don't sell it while being at 99% Nick
The alternator for the post7k guys is a discussion on it's own, as the rpm's for the stock alternator pully is pushing it to the limits.
So these may fail more; this is unfortunately uncharted r&d teritory.
Get's Lee's alternator for now, and get you'rs refurbed. (it's difficult to get a new 100a, as the partnumber for the 100a and the 120a is the same, and some aftermarket 100a ones are the size of a 120, thus useless for us)

cheers Joe, Lee for the parts offer and thanks all, came close yesterday let me tell you.
Just seemed strange it would pack up like that. I started the car and put it on the ramps (all OK), Unhooked the battery, removed the undertrays and checked the knock sensor.
I know I had to move some of the wires around the starter but I wasn't rough with it, then when I started it later battery light. I didn't notice though if it was on at the first start after messing with the knock sensor.

you should check that the battery light plug is connected okay and that the big red cable is tight.

needed that Steve,
just found out I can't get the alternator out of the car, not through the top as the s/c is too big, not through the wheel arch as my swirl pot setup is in the way and not through the bottom as the cc/water pipes + starter are in the way. Now where is that big stick........
Think I will take the extra fuel pump/ swirl pot out. I checked the pressure today on a quick engine run and it is 3.4 bar not running bit low.

done, what a wonderful job
I removed the swirl pot and secondary fuel pump along with the fuel canister which was also in the way.
I think I might just replace the secondary pump now it's apart just to make certain the pressure it is suppling is ok.

Pressure is regulated at the fuel rail regulator. If your pump can't cope with that @ idle, you have far bigger problems...

Probably quicker to take charger of nick. Only 4 bolts! Remove intake pipe Remove belt Remove charger Alternator Then reverse! Job done
Understatement Joe let me tell you, I now put changing the alternator on a harrop s/c as PITA job.
just finished that now got to sort the fuel swirl pot out again
