compressing the bowl part of the tophat, increases the preload on the spring

fuel rail pressure is pushing up against the plate, and the spring + manifold pressure is push down against the plate

Oh, are you using a non-OEM FPR? Ignore what I wrote then, if you are.

Can't see what they could possibly do to the rail. Given the added complexity of your fuel system, I'm not even sure a comparison to my fuel system would be of much use.

Just wanted to attach the gauge to you car to see what it shows, might be a gauge problem

Are you saying that your harrop can make 2.2 Bar of boost in the inlet manifold? That seems mega high to me Nick, AITs will be mental with prolonged use. You are certainly wise to lower the boost of 1.8 Bar (or perhaps even lower).   Did you ever install a meth/water spray kit BTW ? If so, what results did it produce please?

Yep 2.2 is a lot main, reason for the high IAT's on track I have the kit installed ready to go.

I will do both will nip to Matts to see if it shows the same pressure as mine in which case it's the gauge and will then nip over t you Neil to check how far out it is thanks

Well that was interesting just been over to Techieboy and tried it on his car, 3.4bar (thanks for that)

I get 4.2 bar idle that has to be the 044 pump post swirl pot doing this. will go do some driving now to check how it is at higher rpm,

may not need to come over now Neil, seems to be my setup rather than the gauge.

Interesting...

3.4 bar is also not standard for a Z22SE, as that should be 3.8.

But your 4.2 base pressure should come down when the engine uses some fuel and is not overflowing your pressure regulator.

sounds like too much pressure for the fpr to handle, might be time for a fuel rail upgrade to use a separate afpr

Just remove inner steel sleeve from the fuel rail and fit the afpr on the return line

might be worth checking that the blue O ring seal is still intact, this should seal the fpr to the steel inner fuel pipe, otherwise you will not get any adjustment

gets even more interesting   just done some logging, will put then up on my project thread.

started off ok pressure was 4.2 static, when for a drive dropped down to 3.8 ok, booting it it ran up to 5.2 bit low I would have thought, then after a while it just sat at 4.2 regardless of where I put the throttle. i.e full chat 4.2   only thing I can assume is the secondary pump is packing up when hot

I had an issue ages ago with a fuel pump.  Give the car a damn good thrash, it ran fine.  Turn it off to cool down and wouldn't re-start.  A little while later started fine.  Weird.  Turns out the pumps get hot, Turn off and the fuel cools the case.  The case gets too tight on the innerds and it essentially seizes.  Cools a bit more and it frees up again.  Could you be suffering something similar?
