Do vauxhall alloys all fit ok - or do they need a variety of spacers etc?

Just wondering if any Saab rims would fit easily?

I though AliM had a project to do this?

It was an option I was considering for a uni project but I had to go with a more marketable product.

I like that yellow/silver one thumbsup

There are a number of issues to solve with such a project:

1) The petrol filler (looks like a good option on the yellow/silver one)

2) The under side of the bumper section would foul on the exhaust

3) The roll bar cover issue

4) The boot part

5) The wobblyness of the clam when lifted

6) The arch liners

7) The level of arsedness to perform such a mod!!!

I believe there are a number of versions, groundforces on his RV8 car, someone who separated the boot floor (sorry cant remember who, Darcini may know) and the yellow silver one.

It's a shame that groundforces uncles work is not properly documented as I think it was a great piece of work.

Once you know all the bolts are greased and not rusted stuck it does not take long to get the clam off. I think better way is just making simple adaptations so the existing fixings can be undone either with fingers or a single allen key. With a hinge the clam will still be in the way a bit!

Nice. Would love to see some detailing of the hinge setup. Also what's latching the clam.

True. What fixings are use in race engineering?

I think an F40 style rear clam would be more effective for access than a rear hinging solution.

No idea how to do it but susspect it would involve quite a bit of clam reinforcement as the luggage compartment would have to go up with it and prob a cut or 2 and subsequent rebuilding of fibreglass to get round the fuel filler issue by leaving that area in place.

Then mods to roll bar cover area to acomodate hinge and build in strength required to hinge off.

I susspect all this would add quite a bit of weight.

Prob better to go for just a quick release sys to take off clam or part thereof.

As clever (and cool) as the hinged clams are they will inevitably add weight and may actually restrict access from certain angles. I've gone for the 'easier/quicker to remove' route personally.

Maybe I'm thinking about this too much :) ...but would replacing dozens of OE fixings with a bespoke hinge arrangement and few aero catches affect the integrity of the car in a crash?... or doesn't the fiberglass absorb anything of an impact anyway?

I love the idea of removable/hinged clams... a nice project but I'd end up having the car off the road for years doing it :)

Suppose it depends on the effort put into the changes. Any change should secure the clam properly to the chassis with no adverse horizontal or vertical movement when latched, else you'll end up driving a big rattler. Hinged body shells is not a new concept. It would be nice to have a bolt on kit to ensure the job gets finished :)
