As I don't follow F1 like you lot do are these issues down to just untested engine configurations?

There was a really good interview on last nights Ted's Notebook (sky sports f1) with Remi Taffin from Renault Sport F1. He was explaining exactly how the new Renault engine works and the complexities of the new H (heat recovery system) and K (kinetic recovery system) mechanisms.

It's properly intense engineering, very interesting

FiA/Bernie bowing to the green lobby and dictating that the cars should be more fuel efficient and less smelly. Hence downsized engines to 1.6 litre V6's with the addition of turbo's to actually give them some performance. Then the addition of more complex/unreliable energy recovery systems (much more so than KERS of the last few years).

Tactically????   I don't think it's a choice at the moment.

sometimes a tactical chunder isnt 100% by choice

Matt, the way everyone else is going, a foot powered little tykes car would still see him in the top 10 at each race :D

Certainly see him ahead of the Renaults and it already looks better than the Caterturd.

Yep, got a little bit noddy with the battery powered fan, but I liked the segment overall.

Nice bit of paintwork on the nose that. Side pods look huge.

Magnussen seems to be doing well. Though Lewis has put in a uber quick lap now he's on the mediums that Alonso and Button used earlier.

V6 Turbo's makes it more applicable to road cars which the technology in the end is pioneered for, with downsizing, energy recovery and turbo... but there's a big debate on whether that is the role of F1, instead of e.g. Le Mans LMP1 which is more suited.

With no freeze on ERS-H and engine development like there was with V8s the power will rise, but even still as it stands they can already deliver more power and a lot more torque than the V8s, the cars are just slower because of less downforce and more weight

Personally I think it's a good change but many don't agree!

I don't think so. A few of us use the autosport feed for updates : http://live.autospor...tary.php/id/693

If you can get access to sky sports f1, then most of the day's testing is covered by Ted Kravitz at about 9pm tonight

I watched about an hours coverage via a German streaming site yesterday but no coverage that I can find anywhere today. Not sure TV coverage is officially allowed this year.

Renault - Bonk

Posted ImagePosted Image15:16 And it's another red flag as the Toro Rosso grinds to a halt.

15:16 But he comes by the pits rather slowly and things don't look good.

15:15 He goes quicker again to move ahead of Sutil's Sauber.

15:11 Alonso appears to be on the hard Jerez-spec tyre, so he is unlikely to be challenging the top times.

Vergne finally gets a proper time in, but he is still eighth.

Posted Image15:46 Make that bad news - he doesn't even make it to the pit exit before pulling to a halt. Red flag.

15:45 Good news for Toro Rosso, as Jean-Eric Vergne heads out.

Oh dear...
