Chaps!!!

I am finally going to take the plunge and get my NA engine built up properly (Z22se)

Question is, do i go for NA or Forced induction?  Is switching to a 2.4 TB / Cams going to be satisfying enough?

Webcon TB's still worth a go?

Vocky, i think you were experimenting with modified firewall to get extra length on the TB trumpets? Any joy?

The engine will be 100% balanced / blueprinted / Ported / strong internals etc etc. so should rev to 7500 safely i'm guessing

I reckon a Rotrex charger would be ideal in terms of packaging and performance, but i'm concerned about mapping...

Can Courtenay's do it? Will they do it? Anyone else? Is there a piggyback ECU solution?

Can anyone shed light on whether or not the standard Siemens ECU has the ability to work with a Rotrex?

(I don't see why not really, if it has enough to work with the Eaton type?)

Don't really want to shell out for the full GM supercharger kit, but perhaps it's more cost effective in the long run?

Any thoughts / advice appreciated, very open to other's ideas!

Cheers

You'll find the borrowed GM supercharger kit will be reliable, the best packaged and most cost effective than just about all your options above, being an OEM bolt on kit.

The standard GM ECU with the OBD-Tuners upgrade will do all the stuff you want it to do. I think the guy that provides the ECU upgrade (Peter) runs a Rotrex kit on his car, so perhaps worth contacting him directly.

Raced against Peter (OBD guy) with his Rotrex charger years ago. I did not left the damn b*sterd behind me...... me : Dbilas 270hp he : Rotrex 270hp (but it is belt driven so losses in hp) Peter does not drive this kit any more. He went for more horses (turbo i think,.......smiley??????) This kit has passed to another member who drives it now. for mapping just go for the OBD tuner and anything is possible....

Thanks Chaps,

What's the best way to contact this Peter fellow?

Can i buy the OBD upgrade somewhere officially?  Also, what exactly is it?

Is it a physical thing, or just a modified Siemens ecu?

Is it safe etc...

I did indeed chop the bulkhead and extend the trumpets :)

Currently running over 260bhp and 213 ft lb of torque from my ITB engine :D

However saying that a Base stage 2 SC is still the best £ per bhp modification.

I can build you a fully tweaked ITB engine or install a SC conversion if you wish thumbsup

btw Vocky, are you using OBD for your TB engine?

Are there gains from using OBD on GM-supercharged engines etc.

No, he's handicapped by having to use the Alpha ECU that ships with the Webcon kit (though he might be slightly less handicapped if he's using the newer Alpha 5 Pro ECU). Can't use the standard or OBDTuner'd ECU as the ITB's have no fly by wire throttle.

Yes and you're not limited to having to traipse across to North Walsham. Have a search on here on OBDTuner, especially in the Projects sub-forum as theres more info than you could ever want.

Mark Verboom is the one using Peter 's Rotrex. You will find many détails on his Web page. Search for "mark verboom Speedster" on Google... You won't be disappointed.

Ah, he finally wrote something on the Rotrex build...

(Although he cheated a bit with that low power graph of the Eaton SC, as most Stage 2's reach 250Hp or even more. )

Ow, and another note; he does not write anyting about modifying the internal PCV orifice in the stock 2.2 manifold. If that is still open he will be blowing boostpressure into his crankcase. thumbsdown

Pressurise your sump is not a good idea...

OEM turbocharged cars come with a PCV to avoid a pressurised sump. I suggest you do the same when putting FI on a N/A engine.

Which is why I ask about whant real evidence. Numerous CS mapped SC conversions (and various other euro based SCs) have been running for close to 10 years without it fine. I don't doubt in theory it's a "good thing" to do, just given the lack of any evidence of problems with leaving it closed, I question if its worth doing. Fwiw I've run with it closed for 5 years with combination of M62, Harrop, CS and Dutch. Head and sump have been off and visually inspected 30k after the conversion and looked good.
