I would just keep it. Values of the VX I still reckon have dropped artificially low. If you have spent any money on one just keep it. In a couple of years there's half a chance they might pull back a bit especially as there are less and less cars on the market all the time.

why not just become a premium member and post a for sale advert, it is worth no more than £8k being a cat D and no more than £5k if broken for parts.

But then again it was never about being broken was it  :P

Yeah it was about being broken but was seeing if there was going to be much interest. I have tried to sell it but when people come look at it and I tell them it's cat d then they start being funny about it but as I say I'm in no rush to sell her

If you are only telling people about it being CAT after they have come to view it should be of little surprise they start 'being funny about it'. If you advertise it as such at a sensible price then there is a good market. Plenty of savvy buyers out there who can overlook the stigma associated with a CAT car and see it for the reduced price bargain that it is. In a lot of cases an accident repaired car can be a better purchase than an untouched original what with it having had various parts refreshed. Chances are you wouldn't know any different when viewed or driven with another back to back so personally I can't really see the problem as long as you are prepared to both buy and subsequently sell on at a slightly reduced price.

You dont say!!! Advertise it as a cat D at the market price for a cat D and you'll sell it and people wont "start being funny" when they think they're coming to see a straight car and get there and are told its a cat D car.

Then why say when they turned up and you "told" them it was a cat D they got funny? Sorry but somethings a bit odd here, you seem very awkward to deal with.

Can't be arsed to look back on thread now I have started my reply, but how much did you pay for it? £2k?

Advertise it as a Cat d at the going price and see what response you get. It would make it a easier sale if you can supply all the bills receipts etc.

If you still cannot sell then reconsider braking , It will take far longer to sell all the parts, You will still not make as much as selling it complete.

Why does it matter so much about being cat d? My car is cat d, it is perfectly safe to drive and it doesn't affect my insurance premium in the slightest or anything else for that matter..

I actively search for cat d cars when I'm looking for a new motor. So long as it has been repaired properly, who cares if an insurance company didn't want to repair it. If you put something like "cat d but fully repaired" I'm sure you will sell it no problem (that is of course as long as it is repaired properly). Cat d cars can be a bit of a bargain and more people are starting to realise this I think.

Cat d cars don't fetch top dollar but if you bought it cheap in the first place I'm not sure that matters.

Why does it matter so much about being cat d?

Because they are bought by conmen like TVR Dean or UK Lotus Centre who cover up the terminal damage and sell them on.

I have a cat d vx that's in better condition than most regular vx220s. It's all about confidence in inspecting them. Cat d on a vx is not necessarily like cat d on a normal car where parts are available etc. We all know cars have been written off for a tow Bar through a clam. People new to the vx would rightly be cautious but those with more experience should be able to take a more subjective view. Finding a properly tidy vx is so hard now that you'd be crazy not to consider a car just because it was cat d

I thought terminal damage was reserved for categories A + B?

Any way, it matters not. The essence of my post and I think Jonnyboy's  as well is that a cat D car is perfectly okay if you inspect it properly (or have some one else do it if your not sure). If it had been mended to a high standard then there is no problem.

You've got a cat d now after that prang with the uninsured Polish guy. Does it make a difference? The hell it does, your car has been repaired to a standard that is better than it was before, plus you refreshed lots of stuff you weren't able to get at. My view is probably the same as anyone else, I don't care as long as it's listed on the ad and you have a good look over. In fact with a cat d you probably get a really good bargain :)
