You can usually tell because one is dirty inside and the other is clean.

 

thats the easiest way to tell

Also think mine are opposite threads

they are the same and it's easy to connect to the wrong one.

 

 

Yep, I blindly plugged into the wrong one when I fitted an exhaust for someone

I have double checked - the plugs are different so I cannot connect to the second plug on the wheel arch. Time to re check wires otherwise I'm out of ideas.
