The OBD thing didn't work so I took it out. Fastest lap I did Fast lap of Blyton Park. VX220 NA: It says my theoretical best was 1:15.62 so it wasn't too far away.

Looking good :) Does the app let you turn off certain overlay element. The countdown on the top right always annoyed me on everyone vids.

Been looking into going with Harry's Laptimer on an old iphone4 I have.

General question. I assume you guys use the rear facing camera of the phone? If so does that mean when the phone's mounted on the rear window/harness bar you can't control the app via the touchscreen? What do you do, launch app the stick the phone on the holder? And does the screen stay on or can it go blank whilst its running so as to not display out of the rear window.. Or do you use the front facing camera?

The phone only has 16GB so I'd have to record at pretty low res I presume. And Was going to plug in an external mic to the phone to mount somewhere where there's no wind noise with roof off... Anyone done that?

My screen stays lit out the rear window. I select video and mount it and look through the rear window to line it up then set off. It starts recording as I pass the start finish straight.

I have a 64gb but a 20min session at 720p is about 1.7gb so it doesn't use it very quickly.

I use track addict on an iPhone 4 to sometimes clock lap times as it does that well. I find the video overlay isn't accurate though as the GPS built into the phone is too slow to be accurate. I think you need a better phone really. Mark what phone do you use for Harrys lap time?

Yeah, GPS on every phone is sh!t at best. You can have the latest and greatest phone but it's only ever going to have 1Hz GPS at best and be pretty unreliable at that. TrackAddict/RaceChrono/Harrys Lap Timer (irrespective of whether it's the iphone or the Android version) all work best with a decent external GPS. If you're an iphone user, your choice of external GPS receivers is somewhat more limited due to the way Apple lockdown access to bluetooth and charge for the privilege of having a device certified. I _think_ in the case of both Android and iPhone's, the screen has to stay "on" when in video recording mode. Unless things have changed with the OS's, the screen going to sleep also have the side effect of killing the video.

I used a bullet cam and fed it to racechrono along with OBD and dual gps puck. Phone is then mounted out of view.

Can you use it just for the GPS data and export it so you can combine the data with video from another device?

I've used various GPS loggers in the past then used Dashware to overlay it onto video, like this:

Yes you can export the data with RaceChrono and Harrys Lap Timer (though with HLT I think it still has to record a video). Haven't tried with TrackAddict.
