Danger7's boot vents are the most professional I've seen

ooo, that looks pretty good actually.

I've never been a fan of cutting the rear bumper, but just the rear upper panel looks good. I can't imagine it does anything for cooling though, whereas we know the bumper mod does

I didn't look particularly hard to find a pic of Ian's car and that was the first I came across.

Good pic that!  thumbsup

Started work on a mould for a custom vent tube for in the boot. Will probably do it in CF but can't really be arsed with getting it that pretty seeing as it won't really be seen. Plan is to have it in two sections this main one will just about fit into the boot opening and the two rear bits will have a flange around them to secure to the bolts already in place for the blanking / access panels. The two rear most vents will go into one central one (yet to be drilled) in the inner wall of the boot just below the locking pin.

I have to say the rear cut outs look really good on the silver Graham. You must be pleased with the overall result?

Main part of the duct nearly done, just need to tidy and smooth it down a bit and then paint black. Obviously decided to do it in glass tissue / chopped strand mat in the end rather than CF.

You can kind of see how it divides between the two vents and channels air out.

Aren't they exiting at a low pressure point along the car's body? Nice work BTW.

No idea, I'm just waiting for some aerodynamics genius to tell me my efforts are ill thought out and counter productive? :tt:

To my mind the principle is sound, opening up an enclosed area near a hot spot has to help with heat dissipation doesn't it? Whether it will make a gnats cock of difference in reality remains to be seen.

Lol! Do it your way :) You are altering the pressure and air speed in the engine bay (when car is moving). Plus air will always flow the path of least resistance. Where's your intake?

I would've thought that it must increase air flow through the engine bay aswell as cooling... As above the air will travel path of least resistance.

Oh and looks

Possible. Be great if it did. I'd suggest to check rolling MAP sensor readings before and after the mod...would give a rough indication if the air flow to the engine has altered massively.

The engine bay hole is now cut, still need to give it a reinforcement frame and construct the smaller section of ducting. Structually speaking I could safely make it quite a bit bigger but that in turn would mean the ducting would be harder to make since it needs to step down in size to mate up with the rear most section. Also there would be little benefit going any more to the left with the opening and if I made the hole off center and extended it further to the right which is the key area it would mean the air tube would have to be more complex and at an offset angle, I'll see how that goes. When the air ducts are not installed in the boot I'll have a blanking panel I can fit so differences in before and after temperatures can still be measured at a later date. I've got a db reader with temperature and gas probe attachments that I could use to give a general indication to its effectiveness.

Not really, I've done a little more but it's taken a bit of a back seat over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully it will be fully finished by the end of next week when I will have more free time. I'll update this thread when I do get round to it.

Could you do a test run with the bottom vents covered?

I suppose I could yes. I'm not really sure how best to go about getting any meaningful and reliable results with the vents open, blocked etc? Also I've tried mounting a slim 9'' extraction fan to the wall of the boot and just trial testing that parked up it's amazing the warm breeze you can feel coming out of the back. Not sure how that will fare moving along though.

Make sure you check whether you need any heat insulation. Last thing you want in a fire in the boot! Engine temperature gauge will be your first indication of any benefit.
