I had a green 200Vi, looked like something your dad would drive, you could say an old mans ZR160 but it surprised everybody when you put your foot down, the look on all those 306GTI's and Clio 16v boys faces.

Had a 220 Coupe before that, lovely cruiser, died before it's time or before I got bored of it anyway, very fond memories.

Neither of which was a Rover 25 :D

My dad used to have a Rover Vitesse.  That thing was a rocket.  Think they are based on the 800 but like a fastback version?

The 800 coupe? I think that must have inspired the retardedness of BMW and Audi to make every massive saloon car into a 2/3door

I had a 216sli back in the day but it had more of a plastic feel to the wood😜 I'm in the market for a shed and looked at a 04 plate 1.4 MG ZR badged version Is there anything specific I should be looking for Only done 55,000 miles

Ask if it has had a new thermostat. If it hasn't I would advise getting it done. The headgasket issue that everyone sites for the K-series is less of an issue than it is made out to be. So long as the water pump and thermostat are working in harmony then a head gasket failure is extremely unlikely.

on an '04 plate I would also have expected a cambelt change. They are due at 60k (book used to say 80k, but 60k was the Rover recommendation) and when the cambelt is done, it is wise to have the water pump replaced at the same time.

Don't expect the 1.4 to be too torquey low down, the engine is a bit ploddy below 3.5k rpm, but springs into life above this and should pull well up to the redline.

The chassis should feel very tight and there should be no play in any wheels or steering. The car should feel rock-hard and change direction swiftly and without hesitation. The poly-bushes used on the ZR are lifetime items and retain their firmness extremely well.

Had a couple and once you have driven a couple you should tell a ropey one within seconds.

I had a 1997 Rover Vitesse and agree it was bloody rapid for such a large car considering it was only a 2.0 turbo engine..  And yep it was based on the 800.  Don't have a digital image of mine but it looked exactly like this:

I learned to drive in one exactly like this. The instructor used to look up to the sky and speak dreamily of his yearning for a Vanden Plas with chocolate leather interior.

PS - Get your battery charged. 4% would do my head in.

Just remembered that back in 1997 whilst I was back in the UK for about 3 months in between overseas postings I bought a G reg (1990) Rover 827 Sterling for about £700 and ran it fault free before selling it on for the same amount.  It had biscuit beige velour seats (must be where the love for my VX seats comes from :D ), the rear seats reclined ( ;) ) and my brother used it as his wedding car.

Looked like this:
