gearbox from an omega R28 , same bolt pattern and starter motor position ( as LET and B2x4/5 )
depends , does the engine sit on top of the steering rack , as you might have to make room for the sump

I've got a AE86 that's running a 200sx engine. It's about 270bhp at the moment and is pretty quick as it is with more power easily available. I don't just want a fast car, I like projects. I've fancied putting one of these Saab engines in something for a while (VX220 would be the best base car as it'll bolt up to the standard gearbox and it's mid engined). Part of me wonders if I'd prefer my AE86 to a big power VX220 anyway. I've also got a MR2 Roadster with a Corolla T-Sport 190bhp engine and it's a fantastic car but after spinning it on a wet roundabout at about 50mph I'm wary of mid engined handling. It's great but you can't take liberties. What appeals to me with the VX is that they handle so well that one with say 450bhp would be an immense proposition, i'd expect it to be able to mix with pretty much anything on the road or track. If I go for it this will probably be a project for next winter now. There is a good thread with a guy fitting the Saab engine into an RX8 if you want to see it converted to RWD.Good read this thread If the vx conversion with 400bhp will only be used on the road... why don't you just buy a astra vxr, loads cheaper to go to 400+

I've driven a n/a, only for a couple of miles but I loved it, it handled great. I might see if I can pop along to a local meet in the spring time, everyone seems quite friendly.

the weight of the engine probably crushed the chassis

From the top of my head; Rover V8, Honda K20, a Volvo engine and a Saab B207.

As much as I like the old Toyota lumps, I think technology has moved on a bit..
Saying that, there's a chap who's installed a 3S-GTE engine in the Projects section..
How about a Toyota 1.3 turbo lump as used in the glanza starlet. 350hp easily achievable with some tuning and lighter than the stock turbo unit..... Just a thought
