Regarding making some more uprights.

My intention is to make a smaller batch in the future but I can´t really say when. I want to test them properly before making more of them.

I´ll keep you guys updated, I also have to start constructing the rear ones so could use a couple of extra hours on the day  .

do you have any Information regarding the weight savings vs oem?

From memory (dont have access to the files atm) OEM weighs ~2.5kg and these ~1.4kg.

17,5mm is a tad more than the EP track-Elise versions (16mm), which is a good thing as most VX's run bigger wheels up that gives more wishbone angle. thumbsup   (The EP race version is 40mm higher, but too much for my road/track car. A 20mm version would nice... )

I would really like to see how the 40mm is constructed, I'm impressed of how much they managed to move the hub. The 40mm is also with a bigger bearing right? I felt 17.5mm was a good compromise, if I moved the hub more I started to interfere on the other elements that is attached to the upright.

Just a thought on the rears....

Could you put a lug over the bottom of the toe-link ball joint to make it double shear?  It's a thought that crossed my mind but I was planning patterning and casting in SG75.  Hardly lightweight!

That´s what I have planned to do. Similar to EP's version.

Looking good Tonie, I love the VX in black. Í also Believe  17.5mm is good for a lowerd road car

40mm seem more for a race car.

Keep up the good work

Some small progress, the lower mount for the ball joint is machined and on surface treatment at the moment. I made an extra so I could check clearance and that everything fits as it should. And it did.

I have also been removing all the parts for the rear suspension so they´re also on surface treatment at the moment.

Thank god for angle grinder...

And a question, is this (part nr. 2) the right plinth for getting the mirrors a little further out? Do I need anything else than that?

Yes, that will move the mirrors out. All other mounting is the same so no more parts needed.

Just need to sand down/shape the bottom edge of the plinth where it meets the door as the VX door has a more pronounced curvature compared to the Elise, so the bottom edge just interferes with it sitting flush.

No biggie, just easiest to do it before painting and trying to fit it :)

Bye, Arno.

Those plinths are dead easy to fit.  I have them on mine although I really haven't noticed an improvement in visibility but they do look good!  I suspect you would like reading this: https://nitronracing.wordpress.com/

When I fitted them I actually put a little strip of rubber between the wing mirror plinth and the door, helps dampen any vibration in the wing mirrors and eliminates any small variance with mating it to the door.

Mmmm nice reading. Quite wide at the rear

I´ll definitely look into that, sounds like a good solution.

Slow progress at the moment, feels like I´m just waiting for parts to arrive.

Everything in the front suspension is finished except for the 1" arb from EP I just ordered. The brake hose next to the ABS was a real pain in the arse, I hope I never have to do that again.

Posted Image

Time consuming at the moment is manufacturing small parts as blind plates, brackets, new tow mount in front and so on.

Posted Image

I´m also struggling with this little white bush that is supposed to fit in the rubber bush. Just pushing it out again when fitting the steel sleeve.

It is very tight without the white bush so can´t figure out how to do. Any ideas?
