Well after carrying out some engineering calculations/geometry and force calculations I bit the bullet and went out to source some custom force gas struts to the calculations I was working with. The force is right at the sweet spot where its silky smooth and the stress loads transferred from strut to mounting bracket to clam are at the lowest minimum value, the clam doesn't even move or flex when it opened or closed so this validates my calculations were correct for the weight of panel and hinge position and mounting bracket positions

Sorry about the dark video it was late when I finished as I was taking my time to document the process for the future...

I love how smoothly it lifts, I also like how it doesn't fly open from when initially opened, I kinda see this as a safety feature should it for some reason pop open when driving.

It also has a fair bit more clearance than what you'd get with the OEM prop stand.

I am now working away to source a larger quantity of my custom gas strut to possibly look at doing some kits.

Let me know what you think

Much luve

Still tinkering and making some perfections but out of interest what would see as a suitable price?

Then ill have a target to work towards :-)

Thanks to those that have sent me a PM, I'll be in touch soon with more details after I have polished of what I plan in mind for the kits.

Yep, I hate the old fashioned thing of having a stick to prop it open

Good on your Karl. It's not for me but cam see how it could be particularly useful for the bonnet when working in there on a windy day. Maybe the mods could go and spam someone's 100 pages of pointless willy waving project thread instead.

in your video it looks like the boot lid does not sit flush with the clam?

or is that just poor lighting?

The Germans have had these for years.

Funny to see this making it over the channel now.

Indeed each to their own :-) yes good for working under car but also when you need to get stuff in and out of the boot without having to faff about with a stick....last thing I want to do when it suddenly starts pissing down with rain, soft top in the boot is to make it harder to get the boot open and roof out.

I thought using ya head was the norm...

Cheers buddy, Yeah I've done the stick and done using my head and got fed up so sat down with a calculator and some measurements and actually used my head properly!

Poor lighting, I will get another video up this weekend when I am not working.

Fair play to you for taking it on Karl. I will stick to the back of me head or the wonky piece of metal in place at the moment, but may be interested if the price is right (and fitting is included  )

Nice improvement, and even better is seeing someone closing the boot-lid correctly.
