My 2.2 ecotec is coming out and a saab engine going in, so need to decide what to do with the original engine.

Is it useful to keep in case my daughter needs stuff for her VX, or would that not be a good idea anyway as the engines done 71000 miles?

Is it worth anything?

Any suggestion, comments ideas welcome.

Martin

If it were me, I'd get rid of the whole thing in one go; Given the Z22SE is relatively popular amongst the Vauxhall range you'd easily shift it (especially to someone with the snapped cam chain issue) for a few hundred quid. Then that few hundred quid can come off the cost of the SAAB engine. The parts and ancillaries for the Z22SE are plentiful elsewhere so keeping it for parts (again IMO) wouldn't be a worthwhile exercise.

The 2.2 engine isn't worth much as its found in many boggo GM cars, so if you have the space, keep it, or sell it for not a huge amount (~£200 ish?)

Don't think Mrs S would like a z22 coffee table, and Bargi, if you can reply here, reply to my %$^&&% emails !

Given the state of your piston, that engine isn't worth anything more than scrap.

assuming the bore is damaged and the valves also got bits of piston ring hammered in , then there might not be much to recycle

Put it in your lawn mower?! Seriously though, if a piston ringland/crown has failed the block will likely be scored and only be fit for a rebore, so I can't imagine it would be worth a great deal I'm afraid.

You will never get £200 for that engine. Chuck it on the back of the local pikeys truck and forget it.

Your a depressing bunch you lot. My engines great, still flying somehow, you'd never know there was a problem.

On the way to Back on track to get it checked it was flying at max revs most of the way, and if all goes well, will drive the 100 miles to Vockys, even with a chunk of its piston missing.

Depends on the B207 plans me thinks.

Z22SE crank in the B207 will give a bit more breathing room (400 potential) then B207 crank (350 potential), and no need to fit external trigger wheel. (will need custom rods and pistons to be strong again though)

It will have to be opened anyway.

The cam shafts will have to be replaced, as they are shite. Martin may consider using the Z22SE gasket to get back to 10:1 compression. Maybe the head needs flowing, as it´s exhaust ports are designed for turdo, and SC needs to breathe.

The SAAB engine is staying as close as possible to how it came (apart from cams and dbilas springs).  I just want a reliable car that basically does what its done before.

I would prefer to be on track with 250 bhp than sitting next to it with the possibly, occasional, fingers crossed, please don't pack up on me 300 plus.

Starting to think that this engine is going to engine heaven now, you depressing bunch. Seems wrong as its given so much pleasure.

Stock B207 with stage 1 cams, 3" pully  and good timing can do 280 to 300 isch.

Hi, I'm tempted on the Saab engine offer, I've not got any need for it at the moment but it seems like too good an offer to miss and have space for a spare engine. Just wondering what's needed to get it running in the vx? From what I can gather you have a stage 2 sc which is what I've got (mine has courtney calibration). I have been down the road of heavily modifying and keeping my fingers crossed with reliability so would be taking a similar approach to you when I'd install it. Thanks
