can't the engine go in with the clam on,  I know the ecotecs seems a bit bulkier than the turbo , but with the gearbox off , it should come out via the top.

It can do but Vocky and joe didn't use a crane and we needed the space to do the full sc conversion one my car. I know Vocky had a crane at his so it's possible but he will know what's best.

This has happened fairly rapidly due to my engine having a hiccup. I have had the Saab engine sitting there ready for such an occasion so my thought pattern was simply to do it. I'm not doing anything too special but it does all end up a chunk of cash and refitting a standard engine would equally not be cheap as I cant do things like that, but to be honest its too late now as I have bought all the bits and doubt I could sell them all.

The car is being driven up to sunny Milton Keynes today (if it can cover the 100 miles with a large chunk of piston missing) to have its new heart put in and all I can do, is cross my fingers and hope it comes out as good as it was, and who knows, maybe even a little better (though that's hard to imagine).

I am leaving the balancers in and the engine is staying as Saab intended it as a 2.0, its having Dbilas springs to give it some safety, stage 2 cams (may become my biggest mistake, but bought based on guidance from others). My costs include Vocky doing a ton of work including fitting a new fuel pump and clutch and special engine mounts to make the most of this swap time.

Hopefully at the end of July at Spa I will be able to smile and say this was worth doing, if not, oh crappity crap on a stick especially as I have always been one of the people who really appreciated the joy of a 250bhp vx and its usability and reliability.

The only reason you were on 250 was due to Z22SE stock limitations. These are gone now. Put a 3" pully on your M62

The only reason he was on 250 is that that's what he was happy with. Sort of martins words, not mine

It sounded as sweet as a nut, generally didn't go over 3500 but near the end gave it a couple of full on goes and it ran as well and as fast as ever it has.

Cant imagine any engine being better than that and am willing to bet there's limited damage inside, as whenever my car has seemingly ha d a big problem, it has 'so far' always ended up needing a simple cheap solution.

ps Did still lose my throttle 5 times en route. That's an on-going mystery.

I'd be happy spending 4k knowing you're getting a better (and shiny) new engine and everything set up and fitted perfectly for you by Vocky. A bargain I'd say

Cheers, I need to fit mine next weekend/whenever my exhaust is ready.

Out of interest, do you extend the loom to the crank sensor or make an extra cable?

First time I've seen it. Shiny.

Does it weigh the same as the old one??

Seriously is it a lump of iron like the turbos, or a light engine like the NA's. Have I just added weight to the car??
