Hi, my name is Dan. I'm posting this thread on behalf of the cars owner cookster501. I am doing the engineering side of the modifications and installation and the owner Al is doing pretty much everything else himself.

The project started last year with an after work road trip to the middle of nowhere in scotland to pick up the donor for the project.

Al spent pretty much the last 6 months collecting parts and rearraging projects so that last twek it was ready for its stay in my workshop.

The first jobs were the left and right engine mountings, these are built to use vibratechnics mounts.

The mounts are made from 4mm plate.

Good to see another vag project car. ;) Why another older technology lump though? Tfsi lump is far superior and does not need a full rebuild to make 400bhp just software and supporting mods? I know the lump is a bit cheaper for a bam and a lot easier to wire and or standalone option but not sure the cost of hardware is worth it and soon adds up Just a thought but ultimately your call and sure it will be a great end result. I ran the 20vt lump in my old Renault 5 turbo and was great fun Good luck with it DG

I'm not a big fan of the TFSI lump. i've had too many in bits with expensive problems. the cam chain tensioners fail far too easily for my liking.

With a set of rods the AGU will reliably make 500hp, in a nice simple, compact package.

Tfsi is belt driven? Would not go near the newer version. All sorts of potential weak points, a big one the oil pickup / sump along with chain s you mention 500 on agu too laggy for road use in my experience. Driven a few over the years although still cracking lump. Whats the plan for the car? Give us a shout if you need any pointers know the vx220 and both vag engines inside out ;) DG

Here's a load more pics to bring the thread up to date.

This is the donor vehicle for all the front end, found in a Liverpool scrapyard.

Some of the new parts lined up for the conversion. The engine is a brand new Ve crate engine. The box is a fully rebuilt diesel box with a quaiffe atb diff.

A GT30R71 should give it some shove. That somewhat hot turbine looks a little close to the subframe, may I suggest insulating it.

Looks like box end is sitting lower and engine on an angle? Maybe just pic? Good progress and bodywork looks good DG

Engine and box are mounted at an angle, the exact same angle they're mounted at in the golf. Allows the sump to sit flat. And all the oil and waterways to be at the angles they were designed to be.

There's actually a decent amount of clearance Nev. And the turbo is probably going to have a asbestos jacket on the hot side.
