Hey all,

Just finished doing lots of work on this car to make sure it's not only cosmetically superb but mechanically sound too. There's a full description on Pistonheads here.

http://www.pistonhea...---2004/4589022

Drop me a PM through here or call me on the pistonheads number if you'd like any more info.

Correct, that's what made it Cat C rather than D I believe. Spent the last few months fully servicing it, finishing bodywork and generally tidying up all the loose ends. It's now back on the road and a joy to drive.

Won't be many left with such low mileage, I'm sure it's mint looking but the above question posts will need to be put to sleep with evidence photos. A "nick" then jumping to "chassis damage" can be anything.. Just seen full ad. The wheel off is a good shot.. you should add all corners.. if I had the ££ I Deffo would make an offer.

Unfortunately pistonheads only allows a max of 12 photos. I'll add the remaining corners here later but they look exactly the same as the ones on the ad. I have photos of the car pre-repair which can be supplied to any interested buyer. I'm also happy to remove wheels and arch liners so any potential buyer can inspect it for themselves. There was no geometrical damage or fractures to the car and the minor dent in a large section of aluminium was pulled out and reinforced internally for good measure. It was done by a mechanic with 30 years of experience and comprehensive knowledge of VX220's. I knew someone would be along to talk down the value of this car but it really doesn't need defending. Without Cat status, I'm sure this would be worth about £16.5k so I've made plenty of allowance in the price to account for this. I truly believe this is an opportunity to own a great car for a fraction of the cost. Unless you've actually seen the car and inspected it fully, comments like the one above are ill informed and unnecessarily damaging.

Not being nasty to your add cressey but in previous posts people so quick to shoot down a Vx with chassis damage. I'm sure the Vx looks lovely in the pictures.

Yeah I know there's a lot of stigma around Cat cars but a lot is unjustified. I'd certainly steer clear of any car that had been re-bonded or welded as that could be potentially catastrophic. However, a dent that has not fractured is a different story. Aluminium is a fairly malleable material and can withstand a reasonable amount of deformation without compromising its properties. If I thought there were any safety concerns with this car, I'd have broken it for parts. However, I'm confident that the nature of the damage and the quality of the repairs means that this is a safe car and a bargain for someone who can look beyond a Cat status. I've been driving it myself for the last month and its delivered nothing but smiles.

Depends on the severity and location totally. Would I use an ally mountain bike with a dent in the frame? no i wouldnt... But thats not to say it has any bearing on the structual properties of this chassis.

Agree. Fortunately, this dent was in the centre of a large flat piece of box section and was not severe enough to cause a fracture.

A few more pics that I couldn't upload to Pistonheads to show the underbody condition of the car.

Oh I've also just done the engine mounts too. The old ones hadn't quite let go but I replaced them as a precautionary measure anyway.

Only close ups I have are post-repair unfortunately. I've got plenty of the car pre-repair which I'll happily share with any interested buyer though.

Can I see the post repair pics? Or is that only for the buyer?
