Good to hear it went well. I've been to Bedford a couple of times before (once to drive their Caterhams and then again on the Palmersport day when I bought the VX) and I do like the place. Not too far away either. So I'm definitely keen. So Jim, did you just get insurance for the single day (if so, who from?), or do you have track day cover on your policy, or did you just chance it (surely not!)? Boring question I know, and yes I've read all the search results, but it'd be good to hear what a first-timer did. Cheers, Mark

Seriously, if anyone has any doubts about getting your VX out on track, you must at least give it a go. Get over to Bedford - it's perfect for a first time, and a great circuit too thumbsup

It certainly made me realise that while the VX is a stunning road car, there's so much more to the experience :D

*DING!* thumbsup thumbsup

I chanced it :o
Which is why I went to Bedford. There's relatively little to hit there off the circuit, and at no time did I feel like I would hit anything.
With respect to other cars, I made a conscious effort to stay well away - letting them pass with plenty of room, not braking late behind them, not going into corners too close behind them. That didn't detract at all from my enjoyment on track - you can make plenty of room for yourself without driving like a granny :) I should know - I managed to run wide onto the concrete on a couple of occassions and went straight on at one corner after outbraking myself!

I love my car as if it's a child, and I was worried about taking it on track. But it's up to you how you drive there. I wouldn't drive mine as hard as some others there, because I wouldn't be happy if I bounced across the grass at 80mph, so I take it a bit easier. But somewhere like Bedford there are very few places where you have to worry about anything like that thumbsup

Mark I too was a track day virgin but at Anglsey. I also love my car to bits, just ask my wife she's always taking the mickey out of how I look after it. I didn't bother with insurance. When we got to the track it was wet and I had serious doubts about what I was doing. But after a few laps and a session with the instructor I felt quite at ease with it all. I never felt threatened by faster cars and could make my own space even though the circuit was only a mile long. In the end the day came to a close to soon for me. I thought Bedford may be a bit different as it was not a VX only day and so went along to watch and after a few pass laps regreted not doing it.

What about analysing the data afterwards? If you have a datalogeer, are you allowed to look at the laptimes when you get home? :poke:

You can do what you want as long as you are not caught. All insurances on TD's (drivers and organisers) are based upon the event being a TD, one definition of which is 'not timed'. As soon as the clock comes out, the event becomes competitive = not a TD = no insurance, so it is a big issue. After the event is fine.

Is it still a bit dodge though? I mean, is it best to keep your 'collected data' to yourself rather than posting it on a public forum?

Looking at this jimbocam vid he did a 2'53 with a bit of traffic.

Looking at my footage, an average lap is 3'00. Best is 2'57 with instructor - but the new redesigned corner before the straight took me 5 seconds longer to get thru :o

Not bad - thought i was much slower than that :D

Cheeky, keep this to yourself, timing yourself is forbidden on track days and whilst datalogging is allowed the open discussion of track times is what causes insurance companies to get stoppy.....so lets just assume you are a complete girl on track and leave it at that yeah? :P

Please dont get all anal and "ATDO" on me - I am merely comparing what is on public net to my own recordings.... I know the rules as well as anyone
