"Pop a 1 litre Daewoo Matiz ABS braking controller into your VX220"
This seems like one of the more hare-brained .org ideas to me.

Do we even know if they are programmable / writable? Its not like an engine ECU where the manufacturer may need to upgrade over the years for a variety of emissions / safety reasons..

IIRc there was an "update" to the VX220 ABS, which most had from the factory but some very early ones got them in the dealers... No idea if it was a flash update or a hardware swap.
Conceptually I see no reason why they wouldnt be flashable, but it will be sloooooow over KWP2000 (K-Line)

Who knows? Wouldn't surprise me if it's a chip swap or at least a chip removal and reprogramming on the bench.
I'll be sticking with my Exige controller which performs faultlessly and is a known quantity.

It would make sense if they were, they seem to be used in quite a few vehicles so you could produce one type of hardware and just code it to suit each type rather than make one for each and every car model.

Well it might make it easier if they were, but like some manufacturers ECU's (most Toyota ECU's for example) they have an unwritable ROM, even though the general architecture of the unit is the same.

Oh wow, I didn't expect this response.
I was mostly putting this thread up for people like buchos or siztenboots who have knowledge in this area.
Kudos to you for trying it out steve, I really hope you haven't wasted your £20
The Matiz wheels probably have 75 profile tyres, so the rolling wheel radius is probably not too far off ours. However, I would expect it'd need updating in some way, otherwise it'd likely have the same part number as the Lotus one.
It'd be great if someone had an 'in' at Kelsey Hayes so we can find out more, they seem to like ignoring me...
We really need to find a solution instead paying the crazy prices that Lotus demand for the unit. It's rare to see a second hand one below £500 these days.
