Tullet put's in a ceramic cat, that has difficulty with hard abuse.

The trick is to get a steel cat welded in, that can handle more abuse.

The HJS is the Ferrari cat. Could be worth checking out a few other vendors.

That is not right... (get this out of your system.)

OEM VX220 NA is a ceramic cat.

OEM VX220 Turbo is a metallic cat (300cpi or so)

Tullet simply uses a low quality metal cat (normal = 200cpi or you can choose 100cpi; cheap magnafolw or similar)

HJS makes better quality metal cats, but quite expensive...  :ninja:

I can recommend whatever Milltek uses. My old one took 20k NA and 30k of SC and was working fine when it came off. Sent from my cuntyfuckbollock phone by Twatatalk

Makes you wonder is there is anything between the steel magnaflow tullett uses, or the very expensive HJS that will survive our abuse?

Short term I would drill out what left of your old cat Then enjoy it Then think about getting a other down pipe made with a HJS cat in it ( or get a other cheapo one just for MOT ) and run without a cat

Pretty sure miltek use hjs as I did a search and ended up on the miltek site a couple of times? I have a good friend that's in the catalyst industry who's looking into it for me so hopefully I can sort a better price for something similar. Tullet got back to me today saying their sc system still has them same cat in it that I have, despite telling me there's no point in re fitting one of those as they don't last with a sc? Reckon I'll sort something out myself! Tempted to knock out the old cat and re fit but the idea of swapping over each year is a bit grim, bloody itching to drive it while running properly though! Thanks for the injector offer Ivor but have found the issue to be the cat.

One of the dutch destroyed the cat from the 3" tullett, so that is also indeed not fault proof.

I meant a decent quality new steel cat, that does not cost a fortune.

might be worth getting another z22se throttle body (if it's not the 68mm SC version)   It might also be a blocked fuel filter or an injector starting to fail.   Probably worth getting the exhaust cat checked to make sure it has not started to collaspe, but thats a long shot.

Really odd the post cat lambda didn't throw up a fault as it was bent and doubt the cat was doing much! Now running with it plugged in but the boss is blanked off and still doesn't bring up an error? Paul, I didn't think it had a lambda cheater installed?

To my knowledge it hasn't.

I fitted the exhaust system and its been off and on a few times for back box restuffing.

Glad I found this topic, I'm suffering exactly the same symptoms. I don't have a tullet though - pretty certain it's a standard turbo back box and I assume it's the original NA cat. Question- it's the hoon next weekend, will it do any damage to continue driving the car? Apart from the fuel smells and whistling noises, it drives ok if I don't over 6k rpm...

Mine used to misfire  under load and at higher revs but only at above 100 mph or so (i.e. on the long straight on track)  I found WD40 in the coil pack fixed it for a while but it kept recurring. Some people reckoned it was a dodgy fuel pump but fortunately i ignored them.  Eventually I bought a new coil pack and all was OK after that.
