Heya Guys and Girls

For years I have had VWs. I have had all kinds, but now I fancy something a bit different. Paying over the odds for rusty tired scene tax inflated vans and cars has grown old. There are only so many times you can lower a car and stick BBS alloys on it.

I felt like a TVR, but can't stretch to a good one...And so, I have turned my attention to a vx220. I have always loved these little cars although I am not sure if I will fit in one at 6ft 5in tall.....

For about £7k you can get a tatty 2.2. I really fancy painting one matte battleship grey with gold rims and then bolting a supercharger on it. It could be a fantastic little project  for this coming summer. All for less then a £10k (This will buy you a 700,000 mile 15 year old VW Transporter).

But then I spoke to a few friends. They seem to think that VX220s aren't very cool. Vauxhall spawned one of the greatest cars of all time when they teamed up with lotus (Lotus Carlton), so I am a little miffed at this.

What are your guys thoughts on the 'Coolness' of the VX220, please don't be offended though..... I will say again, I love these cars.

Define "cool" and why it matters

Leeve...That is very cool!

I'm going to get looking. I've seen a few Cat D ones for £6k. To be honest it's only going to be used as a summer toy and a track weapon so I might just save myself some money and go for one of them.

They are mainly cool/cold but some lightweights have added carpets and new heaters to make them warm.

:yeahthat: Generally people couldn't give a monkeys if they're cool; it's just a toy car. If you buy a 6k car expect to spend out on it. You'll end up doing suspension refresh, subframe shims, etc etc Even if you diy it will still cost a fair wedge. Have a look at several before you buy. Have a read on here too, there's some good info.

Thanks allot for the advice. I'm a car guy at heart and love the idea of a VX220 supercharger...Reminds me of the G60 I used to have in my corrado. It felt like you used to have to rebuild it every ride into work. Very cool though!

Drive a VX through a built up area and watch people's reactions. Kids stare in awe and say "Look dad, Lamborghini." Where ever you park it there will be people looking at it and staring in the windows trying to figure out what it is. Any petrol head looks on on admoration. It's a great looking car, I don't care what anybody says. And the best bit about it - it's a Vauxhall. It doesn't carry that premium tax associated with badging. I wouldn't pay for a shirt with a pony on it because I don't give two hoots about badges. I'd rather go to Asda and buy the same thing but without a pony on it and spend the money I saved in shiny bits for my Vauxhall. Because I can. Because I'm cool? 😎 Well maybe I'm not cool but perhaps I have my head more screwed on than the nutters that have paid for a car half as good but at twice the price because it has a better badge. There, I feel better now 😊 Moral of the story? Buy a VX220 and you can be as cool as we all are. Welcome to the club 👍 Jon

It's not cool, it's a rectangular, paint blistering, asthmatic engined shitbox. Silver and yellow versions are beyond uncool. All the cool cars were built in the 60's.

Judging by peoples reactions on the road, at petrol stations, in car parks etc..yes its cool.

But then its a false argument because nobody who feels otherwise is going to come up to you and ask you why you bought a plastic sh1tbox lotus bootleg :ninja:

Have your friends ever seen a vx in the flesh or been out in one? If not, then I would be inclined to ignore them and buy the car you want. As an owner I would agree with.... Rob. They're awful plastic shitboxes (just like most of the cars that have come out of the lotus factory). But turbo boy is also right... they get a lot of attention and turn a lot of heads (in a good way). Not many on the road these days and when you tell them it's a Vauxhall they can't quite believe it.

A good question to put to your mates would be, if they don't think the VX is cool, then what cars do they consider cool?

If you get an answer like r5 turbo or imprezza then get new mates  :D

Let's ask on here; what is a 'cool' car?

Ref your height......I'm 6'4", and the guy I bought mine off (Jezter) was taller than me (around your height), and we both got in the vx when I took it out for a test drive before buying it.

Yes, they are cool, and still turn heads.
