I think they are an awesome tyre! But I suppose it depends on context and skill level as an all round proposition. One mans hairy is another mans fun!! (That sounds so wrong 😂)

True :) in context of the Semi Slick though I would say they are probably the best tyre I have experience of.

If you had experience of an A048 in the wet after a few heat cycles you would re-classify your definition of hairy :)

This was my mate driving my car in the wet on ZZRs. That corner at Anglesey is super slippery. I think they are a great tyre but the breakaway was fast with little throttle. Afterwards I told him, if it happens again, to use "the big f***ing round thing in front of you!". https://youtu.be/Nio-04wDG_g

With regards Piwo commenst, what does 'open sides' mean and I thought the Avons were 5.5mm depth.

Will look at what to do on Laurens VX.

Thanks all.

Martin S

no zzr has 7mm.

in r888 The grooves are reduced on the edges of the tire.

in  zzr The grooves are wide on the edges of the tire.

Comparing the width zzr to sport cup 2       225/45r17

ad08r             11kg,

 sport cup 2   9,3kg.

sport cup 2  225/45r17 is a cheap, light and very good on dry and wet  tire

I think its definitely sport cup 2's for me. The Exige isn't going to be as track focussed as my VX was.

Who are you trying to kid martin The first time this goes on track you will want a stickier tire lighter wheels

 funny that I was thinking exactly the same thing myself!

I'd go with the wider fronts on the ZZR's, which should help cure the understeer :)

My brother in law works for Avon designing tyres. Would you like me to ask him for more detailed information regarding difference in compound, supposed application etc?

If anyone has any specific questions I'm sure he'd be happy to answer them if he can.

I've always thought if I bought a new Exige I'd keep the standard wheels and tyres for daily use and buy a set of the smallest TD's with the stickiest tyres that would fit for trackdays.
