I really wish that councils, when they send out the crap about what they've spent our hard earned on each year, would also include in that analysis how much they've spent on maintaining their gold plated pensions.

I don't even live in my house at the moment (living overseas) and so consume absolutely no services. And yet I have to pay full council tax. Really fooks me off.

Think it's 20% if it's unfurnished.

Not in Milton Keynes. No provision for any discount either furnished or unfurnished. Only discount is as single occupancy which is 25%.

In Cheshire you get 25% single occupancy. If it's unoccupied you get 50% off for 6 months then it's full price for the next 6 months. After being empty for a year it's double!

There is a guide for challenging the banding here:

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/council-tax-bands-change

I used a similar guide several years ago and the house went down a band. We got a rebate for several years we had overpaid, so well worth the effort.

Well, just strated looking into this and some of my neighbours are the band below. I've tried the back valuation and I come in at the band below. Time for a challenge!

But at least you can sleep well at night knowing that you are allowing them to continue paying in vast amounts to maintain those gold plated, defined benefit pension schemes 😠
