Can the forum member who was kind enough to let me have an old shim a while back please remind me who he was.

I have a present for you

I will on Thursday when I recover them from the finishers. S355 steel and finished with a zinc epoxy resin (93% zinc solids).

Significantly harder than OE (if and when they are available) and far, far better protected.

Oh, and cheaper.

 

Around £15 each or £28 a pair.

Didnt get new ones. Mine werent too bad to be fair. Just slathered them in Duralac and refitted...

Gutted! These come available AFTER I've had the subframe off replacing mine. Not a job I want to repeat.

I'll take a pair of these when they're available! Been putting this off for ages, seems like that was the right idea.

Made from 2mm (OE 1.2mm)  S355 for maximum deformation resistance.

They have been blasted just prior to spray coating with a 93% solid Zinc epoxy and slow baked to fully set.

This is about as good as it can get, there is no harder steel available in this thickness and the protection is the best available.

 

The only bad news is these should really be utilised before the chassis corrodes, not as a repair.

Chris is sending some nice corroded chassis pics later along with some info on how to check.

 

If you think the shim plate is bad in these pics you should see the chassis!

Not easy to picture the deformation caused by the expansion of the corroded metals.

Quite correct, I should have qualified my statement  

There is no stronger steel which is readily commercially available at a cost which is reasonable considering the application.

 

As good as it gets does not allow for £50 per shim  

And this is before the brittleness of such a product is investigated......
