Well I was happy with the Quantum Blacks and preferred them ride wise to the Nitrons which the Quantums replaced back in 2013. Dan also seems happy with them now so maybe things have changed over the last few years. Thing is Matt can supply either so he can probably give an unbiased opinion but, as in most things in life, one persons preference is another persons hate. You have the right approach, get the geo done and take it from there. They are happy to do a geo don't get me wrong. They just don't rate the quantums at all and the advise is that the NTR40 is far superior and they have fitted quite a few sets for people who had quantums and were not happy. It's a bit of a lottery though because when I wanted to go from standard to uprated coilovers I spoke in length with Matt who advised to get quantums but generally seemed to be saying either would be great. Then you have another specialst saying quantums are no good.

???? I presume Joe, by that you mean, when anyone else other than you drives it?😂😂😂😂😂 ...joking aside, (it's really True, but don't tell Joe!) BOT will transform your car and offer you genuine advice with tried and tested solutions. ...Just don't believe the rumours that BOT also make nice tea or offer biscuits! ...Maybe they do, but just for customers they like? 🤔another shout out for back on track, they have transformed the handling of my car
I didn't get any biscuits either (though I don't drink tea...)
That said, Jez did a cracking job on my car. And FYI, my new Quantums were leaking and required a rebuild, despite having done zero road miles since install. I still have them though, and for the short time I've driven the car (with a BOT geo) they seem fine.

Yes, I don't have the zeros any more.
They chirped over every single road bump, especially bad on smaller bumps where the road was quite smooth. Turned out to be a valving issue and was fixed, but the scraping/squelching noise was never fixed. It must have also been related to the dampers, the blacks don't do it.
I don't believe the springs on the blacks touch the chassis at full droop either will check this afternoon.
There was another user on here that had the same chirping issue that I have with the zeros. The resolution was to get them re-valved by quantum. It seems to be a known issue as they fixed it easily.
To be perfectly honest, I have no experience with the Nitrons but I wouldn't recommend Quantums to anyone because I've had a fair few niggles. Service from all parties involved has always been good, but I feel overall there has been too many issues.

I leveled the car out and checked the ride height.
It's around 120 front and 130 rear, little variation of course, but pretty close. One side is higher slightly so it was probably set with just ballast in one side.
I noticed however that my rear passenger shock has an issue. The adjustment clicker gets super hard compared to all the other corners. Turning it towards soft will free it up, but as you click towards hard it gets really tough to move. I almost had to use grips on it to move it softer again after I'd clicked it full hard.
I also took the spring off the same damper and compressed it. On full hard it doesn't expand at all, just stays compressed and on full soft it comes out, but very slowly and not always. I had to physically pull it outwards to get the damper to full extend again. Seems like its fcuked. Pretty sh*t for a set of dampers that are not yet a year old. On full soft as well, it was very hard to compress the damper without a spring on it, I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I almost couldn't do it. I guess it'll depend on the valving?
Looks like I'll have to get them sent to quantum.
I didn't even bother looking at the alignment after I found that, no point.

that explains the clunking noise I heard

Well it doesn't seem to actually make any noise, it's just got no rebound I guess it's leaked or something. Wont it just be really bouncy rather than create a clunking noise? I think that clunking you heard is either the window or door, I guess it could be the damper I dunno.that explains the clunking noise I heard

Rear OS damper: https://photos.app.g...4wj1qVwydvm9Jo1 Rear NS damper: https://photos.app.g...FaANmYuAdYtFvN2 Both set to full soft.
Refurb time, that will certainly be a big part of the problem!!

How many miles on the dampers, you bought from new?

They were "barely used" from an Elise parts track car. I've done maybe 8k on them, road miles. Owned them myself less than 1 year. It had a failure of a seal on the adjustment needle I think. Quantum repaired it today, effectively it was stuck on full hard. It's working fine now. They said the other 3 are all okay. Bank holiday plans sorted - refit! How many miles on the dampers, you bought from new?
