So my VXT intermittently ignores the starter button

So I go looking for this yellow relay.

In the boot on the left right?  :tumble:

Instead I find this little beauty (which has long since been dead!)

What the.....

So where is the famous yellow relay then?

IS this not where it should be?

If it's intermittent check that the connections in the block that the relay plugs into have not been pushed back and randomly touch the relay contacts, happened to me

You posted a set of poststamps, so difficult to see.
Make a picture of the complete left side of the rear clam inside, not just the spare battery box.

Here they are (probably removed from the top plastic cover)

I had an issue with the starter button not long after I bought my vx. Turned out to be the connector on the starter button itself.

Think you need to double click on the 3 'poststamps' when the link 1st opens

From the position of the loom, check that it is not behind that battery thing too.

So, eventually got round to finding mine, as in the picture above.  :yeahthat:

Pinned down by that massive red fuse.

Had to, car wouldn't start.

Stupidly changed the starter button 1st

Turns out, yellow relay is the problem.

Plugged it out, had a look, plugged it back in; car started like never had a problem!

Patted myself on the back, put everything back in place; starter button dead!  :(

Turns out to be very sensitive to position, wriggle it a bit; starter works

So, what's everyone doing about this?

  1. Just using grey relay (exactly which one please!) and fighter pilot cover over starter button?
  2. Rewiring other relay?
  3. Any reliable replacements out there?
  4. Dreaming of the day Lotus/Proton/Geely start making these again?
  5. Any way to service my dodgy one?
  6. Other

Seperate the black block section (they slide apart) and have a close look at terminals and wiring for corrosion etc

Some contact cleaner spray might help

While seperated plug back in and try to eliminate wiring

Ideally you want to test a known working or try you suspect one on a local friendly vx owner

I would check earth's also and voltages if you have a multi meter

Check the terminals have not been pushed back in the block ( that the relay plugs into) this happened to me. If they have with the relay in position push the terminals onto the relay contacts from underneath the block ( the side with the wires, you can see if the terminals have been pushed back if you look at that side of the block
