Seperate the black block section (they slide apart) and have a close look at terminals and wiring for corrosion etc

Some contact cleaner spray might help

While seperated plug back in and try to eliminate wiring

Ideally you want to test a known working or try you suspect one on a local friendly vx owner

I would check earth's also and voltages if you have a multi meter

Check the terminals have not been pushed back in the block ( that the relay plugs into) this happened to me. If they have with the relay in position push the terminals onto the relay contacts from underneath the block ( the side with the wires, you can see if the terminals have been pushed back if you look at that side of the block

So you are both suggesting the problem may well be where the relay goes rather than the relay itself?

Hmm  :ninja:  wasn't expecting that one.

I have a plan then; learn some more electrics!

Thanks fellas

And any of the grey relays will do for 'get me home' or a particular one of the three?

Now I've got the belt I just want to pack a set of braces as well!  :D

Yep, and the same thing has happened to me since, on the up side, for me, as part of my investigation I bought a spare yellow relay for an extortionate (at the time) £40, now a bargain as I have a spare.
Re grey relay I don't think they work as the yellow is a latching relay to prevent you trying to start the engine when it's running, I'm sure some sage will give the definitive on this shortly or a quick Google search will find the right thread on here as it's been discussed many a time

But because it so old, spare, and untested for some time, you'll let it go for £30 and someone will be doing you a favour taking it off your hands for sure!

(I have a spare too, but only because I bought a Dutch one, at a large price, but wanted to be future proofed as the way I see it, the price is only going up......lol)

£30 seems a bit much for a used item?
