The issue is a lot more complicated than that I'm afraid.
I'm not saying what is out there is dangerous (I use one myself) but if they won't stand by the product (legally) then more needs to be done before I'll supply it.

why not to sell this product as for racing purpose only??,not for street use, without any warranty and at owner risk, this could solve the legal problem, with sticker with write"install at your own risk" thumbsup thumbsup

That can work but we live in a World where people can successfully sue an airplane manufacturer for not putting a warning sticker on a Cessna stating "do not attempt to fly this plane unless you have full training" (true case) I think the issues are solved but sorry its taking so long, as you might realise I tend to do these things thoroughly which means inevitably it takes longer than I'd like.

On this subject, what are the insurance implications should you crash and suffer injuries from wearing harnesses (submaring etc.)? Presumably you'd be OK (insurance-wise, not necessary health-wise) if you informed them you had harnesses fitted?

I'd buy a MKII Elise one an get someone who is handy at fabricating to make to suit - i think a lot of others have done this with good results. To get around any insurance worries, make sure the inertia reel ones still work (you'll need them in for the MOT unless you have a press to release buckle on the full harness).

It's a right bodge though, looks nasty and involves a huge amount of work

Well, I'm happy with mine, it looks good, works fine and i can still use the original belts - others may be different.

I don't think race harnesses are road legal due to the design of the buckle?

You can get road legal ones with push button rather than twist release...

There is alot said about the harness and being road legal. As Andy said the Caterhams have a buckle and they are legal. But other cars do not pass MOT's with Buckle harnesses. TBH i think its a lot of crap. Last time i bought Harness from LUKE they also said they were not road legal. Put them in anyway and it passed the MOT. Not sure if it was because my mate was doing the MOT though! ;)

The issue is a lot more complicated than that I'm afraid.

If you have one fitted, are the fitters qualified to install safety equipment into the car? Has the bar been tested to crash protection levels? What material is a it made from? Has the angle been measured correctly with harness's? What harness have been installed? Are they correct for the car?

Hmmm... sounds like the sort of questions Swiss vehicle testers want to know answers to for everything!

Just got back from Horizon Motorsport this afternoon. They've just took delivery of a few purpose made VX220 harness bars. Must admit, not of that much interest to me personally, but judging by this thread some others on here might find this little nugget of info useful thumbsup .

Mines booked in at Tolbar this Thursday together with sus geo set up including corner weight correction. The harness bar is made individually to each car. I'm having a 5 point fitted and retaining the standard seat belts. :P

Saw this bar from Moto Concept on a Speedster at Hock. yesterday. Very neat and professional looking. The owner got the seat eyelets from them too and had a local Swiss saddler do the seats. Doesn't seem to be on their website, but the prevoius one was high quality steel (ST52 – whatever that means  ).
