I finally made it to Daventry last Tuesday for a Scarred stiff Geo set up. Best money I've spent on the car. After driving around my favourite Lincolnshire roads for the last few days I can't beleive how much better the car handles :D . The car feels way more stable over uneven roads and I'm not having to grip the wheel so tight as I used to do. Cornering is fantastic......the back end is not getting quite as curious as it used to. I know there's plenty of write ups on here regarding scarred stiff that are better than mine so I won't babble on. I just wish i'd had it done months ago :beat: . Top blokes aswell thumbsup

mmm.. seem to keep reading this. ;) How does it affect the ride though ? Having got used to the softer turbo ride I wouldn't want the harder ride back that I had with my previous NA. (It's an age thing) Anyone able to make the comparison both cars standard v vxt SS'ed ? chinky chinky

On the NA it felt smoother and more comfortable afterwards rather than harder.

How did they manage this just by changing the geo ?

Maybe lowered tyre pressures??

Fractionally yes, but it felt a lot more together and rides bumps more smoothly, no idea how they did it!

There are whole host of contributory factors. These include: o the horrid characteristics of the suspension (the rear toes out when roll builds up) o the squashiness of the wishbone bushes which introduce their own little steering contribution o the very strange set-up Lotus apply at Vauxhall's behest to make the thing understeer o the inability of Lotus to actually arrange the geometry on any particular car the way its supposed to be o widdershins (which covers the ones I haven't remembered) What the chaps do is adjust the suspension set-up so its: a: straight and symmetrical b: in a configuration which minimises the handling consequences of the problems mentioned above They also do like a lower tyre pressure and I generally agree with them about that. BTW, b: has opportunities for adjustment to suit your driving requirements. F'rinstance, if you are a hot shot then they can dial in some more neg camber on the rear.

So how much is it at scared stiff? thing is a lot depends on geographical position rather than just cost. ss is a lot lot closer to me than plans i think.

£141 - worth every penny.

I doubt Plans use the same settings as Scared Stiff.

Salopian......don't worry, the ride is no harder after the set up. I can only speak for the turbo. I always thought my VXT was set up O.K. (being a new car and all that) so thought I would possibly be wasting my money on the set up....how wrong I was :beat: . When I got in the car after the set up it felt different straight away. You still get all the feedback through the steering wheel but the car just feels more stable on the road and I am cornering at speed with way more confidence than before.Even travelling at high speeds in a straight line feels way safer than before the Geo set up.

Nice to know they're still ripping people off

On what basis do you suggest that they use different settings? I'm not saying they do - just wondering what makes you so certain they don't?

Graham - care to interject? :poke:

Foxy

What did they do to pi$$ you off so?

I have spent money with both graham (Plans) and Steve (Scared Stiff) in the last month and they are both very good at what they do and very nice blokes thumbsup
And I have said so on here :D

Steve is up to his ears with work and is taking on more space to try and cope with demand. So at the moment he does not need to advertise, his reputation for being able to set a car up after winning 2 TVR Tuscan championships in a row is passed on by word of mouth and in forums like this (you ought to see Pistonheads) So he isn't contributing to this forum but he isn't trying to sell his services here either :)

the people here that have used him and are happy with the top quality service he provides and say so!

I'm sure Graham does not need to defend his corner thumbsup At the end of the day we are lucky there are such quality guys about to look after our pride and joys :D :D
