Would anyone be interested in *`track day` magnesium wheels? We've been in discussion with a major European manufacturer that can supply at a realistic price :) *These wheels are not guaranteed for road use

Would probably be fine on German roads , but our pot holes could be challenging! ;)

Those wheels are gorgeous!

Any idea how much they actually weigh compared to standard.
They do seem to protrude out further than std!

A friend of mine has asked VX-Performance, And this was the answer.

Front rims: ET20 / 8,4 Kg weight
Rear rims: ET25 / 9,4 Kg weight.

I have the superlight version from Lotus Specials so they are more like 7 kg front and 8 kg back thumbsup

The last information what i've heard from Lotus specials is that they do not have the "superlight" version anymore  @stevevx220, Do you have anymore information (picture's, Size's, Weight's, Prize's) of those wheels?

These will be 16" 17" combo five spoke ( same dimensions as vxr wheels only lighter)

I did another search and found these guys

ATS DTC wheels can be bought in the UK through
http://www.advancedautosport.com

There based in Pelsall (delightful part of the Black Country).

I banged off an email to the UK supplier and had the most bizarre response. I don't know if it's because it's Sunday and may not have been a human generating the reply but it said that if I bought the wheels from them I would have to sign an indemnity stating they were not for road use. Seems odd if VX performance website will sell them for road use why the UK supplier will not. IMHO if they aren't approved for road use there's no point in buying them.

As I understand it, the ATS wheels were lightened (and therefore weakened?) by Lotus Specials in Germany for track use. THe VX-performance site says that they are for track use but may be given TÜV approval in house for road use.

I would have thought that if they can get TÜV, approval for the UK would not be an issue – but whether you would want to risk using them on the UK's roads is another question...

Well that settles it then. Unless they are approved to use them on the road they have to be off the shopping list. What a shame though because they look the dog's danglies IMHO

ATS Web site here

Opel Speedster fitments in PDF form (scroll to bottom) here

Just to add the ATS DTM is a nicer wheel IMO and is TUV approved, although only available in 18" for the speedster it seems..

Question to stevevx220: the magnesium wheels you mentioned respect the offset of the original wheels? Any idea on the price, whereabouts? Are there any pictures available? B)

For anyone still reading this thread because it was entitled ATS Wheels I finally received this explanation from the UK supplier. There are three sets of wheels that fit the VX.

Their email reads:-
The DTM wheel is stronger but heavier than the DTC. 8x18” is a standard wheel but the 9½18” wheel requires an adapter to fit to your car ~ the wheel itself has a 5x114,5 stud pattern. (check our page http://www.advanceda...com/samples.htm )

The DTC can be TUV approved but only on a car to car basis and only at either ATS or the retailer. What we get you to sign is a piece of paper that means you accept that there is no all encompassing warranty for the wheels to be used on the road, if you kerb them they will bend because they’re light wheels for motorsport ~ this is more important on heavier cars than yours. We will always take any problems seriously and resolve them as best we can but you must understand these wheels are aimed at motorsport use and we have to ensure that if they get fitted to a car that cruises round McDonalds and the speed humps there the wheels may suffer a bit. They can take a large amount of track use easily but road use sometimes differs dramatically….

We have DTM on our diesel VW Passat and they’re fine some 150,000 miles later!

Both the DTM and DTC are available in the sizes listed here:~ “Die Felgen werden in den Dimensionen 7,5x17" (VA) [front axle] und 9x17" (HA) [rear axle] geliefert. Die Montage erfolgt ohne Distanzscheiben! [fitting does not require the use of spacers]”

DTC sizes, weights and standard prices:~
7½x17" (5.6kgs) £115.69 9x17" (8.8kgs) £142.81

DTM sizes, weights and standard prices:~
7½x17" (9.7kgs) £101.68 9x17" (11kgs) £112.53

DTM Racing (light weight version of the DTM) sizes, weights and standard prices:~
7½x17" (8.5kgs) £128.80 9x17" (9kgs) £140.55

Of the options available I would suggest

(A) DTM wheels for everyday use, including country lanes (rough/potholed tarmac) and the like.

(B) DTC wheels for track and general or careful road use.

Back up this thread somewhere near the first page a VX owner posted pics of them on his car.

Manufacturers website has some very poor photoshop pictures

I recently bought the DTC racing wheels:

I have weighed them and the weigths are close to what skogshuggarn wrote.
So the weight "by ATS" above of 5.6kg for the fronts is too optimistic. Mine were 7kg. Rear 8.5kg.

Maybe saturday they will be fitted with tyres and put on my car, together with a new geo set-up :groupjump:
