I'd also be worried about the head, the Saab Turbo engine used a sand cast head instead of the lost foam cast head of the NA. To cope with the extra pressure Think solid Chocolate vs Cadbury's Wispa

Yeah, in an ideal world i'd agree.

In fact, why not just change the block (piston cooling jets), and cams (correct grind for a turbo) valves (sodium filled) and springs (rev limit)...

In short, swap out the 2.2 and insert the B207L from SAAB.

There are a lot of ppl in the states running stock with turbos and superchargers and a fair few who have changed the rods and pistons - the question is, how long do they run for?

Ta, Paul.

if i recall rightly ..gm tested the 2.2 ecotec whilst building their 1000bhp drag car...the rods failed at 283ish bhp!not sure of the torque though.....

You are correct, however they only wanted the car to live for 10 or 20 drag pulls. :o

Its better to go with the sport-compact build manual (also from GM) which recommends 250bhp as the limit for stock internals. I recon. thumbsup

Yeah the saxo seems to handle the power very well and is easer to drive harder than the VX.. i still would not sell my na evan if it does feel slow.. well i would but only for a vxt.. lol My saxo was always going wrong. This is wot puts me off turbo conversions or SC's 250bhp in a Na would be mad though... lol well not a NA anymore but you know wot i mean lol :beat:

Because when you use lost foam casting there can be alot of small bubble trapped in the metal when it cools, from when the foam melts. In reality it can be anything between an Aero bar to a Wispa bar consistance depending on the quality if the foundary

With sand casting this doesn't happen as your pouring the molten metal into a void in solidified sand.

I would make a guess that its something to do with the casting process... Lost foam sugguests something is porus in the casting process which would lead to a metal which is full of holes on the surface (at a small scale), or something...

edit: doh! just missed the reply from someone who knows what they're on about! :D

it just always went wrong, i blow 2 turbo's, 2 cluch's and one of them was a padal cluch :o all the engine mounts had to be up rated, the 5th injecter broke & i blow more holes in the exhaust then i can remenber.. To top it all aff i was doing silly amonts of fuel and i just got fed up and bought a VX.. i only sold the saxo about 6 months ago. i had both for a while but never got around to racing them together by letting one of my mates drive one. would of been good to properly test them. head to head :D

I did the same when they were on about their last turbo conversion - about a year or so ago.... Never replied to me either.

It was my understanding that Regal were moving away from Vauxhall tuning and into VW/Audi....thats the gossip in the tuning market anyway.
